I did not see any option for adjusting day vs night time.

But you could make an small outpost nearby? sleep there?

This game isn't a survival crafting game in the sense that you set up a big base somewhere and stay there forever until you get bored. You are expected to move on, forge ahead, and eventually reach the end point of your goal. Typically you might set up on large base and then you can set up smaller outposts each with their own bedroll. The fact you're so spread out that you can't get anything done in a day means you're trying to play the game a way it wasn't designed for.

Once you can craft the map teleporters, you can pretty much play exactly like that though. As far as I can tell, the raids only happen on the level you're currently on.

They are not.

If, for some reason, you have exceedingly bad luck with hordes not dropping enough, you can just multiply your black diamonds by creating a new world, repairing the first hearth and mapstone, then dismantling the mapstone before leaving and repeating the process as desired.
