Can you turn off dropping your stuff??
So I am playing solo and the game is pretty fun so far but one thing that is driving me nuts and just lead to my first playthrough being over is when you die, you drop your stuff. Can you turn that off? I got to the Bridge of Long Dwarven name here and ran into the Drake... of course they put in a boss fight when I don't have access to Tier 4 stuff yet but anyway... he killed me after a long fight... and now I can't get my stuff back because I have to run back with nothing.

I can't put on old gear because my bag was full, I remember hearing somewhere that there was a ruined mapstone inside so I figured I'd go fix it and port back to base and unload. So now I can't get my stuff back and my first playthrough is over... sucks. I am not going to start another if the drop your gear stuff can't be turned off. Anyone know?

Nope, it can't be turned off.

Start a new game, use the same character, gather some supplies there, then bring them back to your other game.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not going to start a new game, I'll play something else instead. I can't defeat the Drake, even cheesy because he doesn't get stuck on the stairs long enough. Why put such a hard enemy when entering a new area? I don't have access to tier 4 stuff yet.

I even tried several different methods to try and get around him but he keeps getting me. Oh well, was a fun game for sure.

Just grab an old set of armor to keep you alive and grab your body. You won’t get everything, but you’ll get most everything. Then just run away and drop a few things. Go back for the rest. Anything you drop won’t be going anywhere. You can even get right next to the room and drop a hearth, chest and mapstone to make getting there easier if it takes you down again.

It's a game about exploration. You do not have to fight the drake if you cannot. There's always the option to come back, grab your stuff, and leave just as quickly to go somewhere else.

Yeah, it might take a few attempts to recover your gear if you died in a really bad place. Worst case scenario, you can always make some new gear. Thankfully, the recipes aren't making this extremely punishing.

There's a whole map to explore, after all.

I would wager the future will bring an option to disable the mechanic of dropping things on death. Many players are over that mechanic and not providing the option to disable it is costing the devs major money. More options = more players = more money.

I personally like the challenge of dropping things on death, but I 100% support an option of turning it off for those that do not.

If you wish, I can come and help to get your gear back.

Not really. Most players who want more options are going to be ones that already own the game. Depending on the option, it can actually be quite costly on the part of developers to have more options. Not saying this is one of them, but more options isn’t always better or a good thing.

Thank you all for the replies and offers, that's awesome. I was able to get my stuff back after a few more tries, had to lower Aggro and Difficulty down all the way and cheese him but it worked. Thankfully.
you eventually get to a point where you can make several sets of backup on backup armor and weapons
i have 10 axes of durin in storage

well, this kind of ruins the game.
I don't really get why they force corpse runs on ppl in 2024

Get used to it.
You simply have to run to the spot where you died and retrieve youre gear. Simple as that.
Has been like that sins the game was released so stop crying.
