Tearing up crates and furniture is actually looking like a great way because you'll get tons of wood and metal bits, and your basic pick is always replaceable with these items.
In our group's save, there is a bear cave five steps in front of the stairs up to the forge. Kiting that thing through the wooden structure was the fastest full demo I've ever seen in this game. That bear just charged right through it all like it was made of silly string.
I was hitting a golden crate on the top floor of one building and took out the floor in the process only to have half the building fall. You could just take out the supports and it would probably work the same way.
Can confirm! If it's free-standing, easiest thing to do is knock out the walls and any first-level pillars. However, many of them are built with partial or even full walls made out of indestructible stone, and those will keep mostly up even with all the foundations destroyed. For those you have to find and destroy any wall pieces joining them to the stone, and then it's All Fall Down,
I also suspect they respawn as I swear I've down certain areas and there's still cloth and wood all over the ground. I do know for a fact, however, that the small rocks on the ground that you can mine (the ones that give you like 2 copper or tin) respawn, as I have a few outside my base and they respawned on top of some furniture.
This gave me like 10 stacks, thanks a lot
That's super interesting, didn't know they could do that
This was fantastic, thank you
Also, agree with Neeko. You don't need to go looking for things, but as you explore, just keep hitting the occasional wooden box or similar on the ground that are in the way. You'll 'passively' (not really, but you know) amass quite a lot of wood over time as you move around.
