Early raid in the mines and the consequences it brought with it
I play this game on normal difficulty and in campaign mode for the last two days solo and when I moved from the initial base to the one in the mines that has the port stone, once I finished building all stuff and sorting everything into multiple chests I got raided. The raid consisted of 6 (!) orcs and like 10ish goblins. As they started to attack the entrance of my base, I ran into them and tried to kite them away from my base. Given the gear that I had this was quite an endeavor as I needed like 4-5 heavy attacks on a goblin to kill him and way, way more for the orcs. I was quite busy to stay alive and therefore didn't notice that like half of the mob disengaged and ran back to my base to destroy it.

While kiting the mobs further and further they at some point dug into the ground and were gone and the event was done. When I returned to my base, there wasn't anything left to call a base but there was plenty of stuff laying on the ground. So I rebuilt the base basically from scratch. I noticed that the inventory of broken up chests seemed to be completely there and so it took me a couple of minutes to restore order in the chaos the mobs left. No big deal, right? Well, the content of one chest wasn't there unfortunately. This was a chest filled with all the gems I found, with all the coins that I had and the metal bars I refined. All gone for good (or worse). That chest unfortunately also contained like 5 black diamonds.

Some time later, I cleared both level of the mines and farmed all metal ores I could find and I managed to obtain 11 black diamonds in that process. I remembered that I had to repair the lift to progress further. Problem is, I need 15 black diamonds now. To bad I lost 5 of them due to a raid destroying all of the stuff in my base and from what it seems the only chest that wasn't put on the ground was that m.f. chest with those gems in it.

The problem now is, that I either have to camp my base and hope for a large enough raid and hope for killed orcs to drop some black diamonds or create a new world and grind those diamonds there. IMO this is an absolutely stupid game design. I'm not really sure WHY I need 15 diamonds to repair a lift, but to progress with the story such items shouldn't be so scarse, especially as I found a tier 2 set recipe that I could craft that requires black diamonds. Why on earth do the devs add such a recipe when plenty of players seem to struggle with black diamonds? What if I wanted to craft that set to see where it differs from the one that I crafted before? I'd basically blocked any means to progress with the quest as I can't repair the lift as it is now the case in my game as I lost 5 of those gems for whatever reason. Beating the game should be possible by only playing a single world and not having to camp a certain location and hope for a chance that one of the orcs drops such a crystal or just open a new world and farm the stuff you need there.

Am I missing something here? On Reddit I saw a thread with a similar problem where they suggested to build rope ladders to get down to the ground, however my rope ladder ends nowhere even close to the ground and I also do not seem to place any furhter planks or ropes in the vicinity. I'm not sure whether I survive the fall here (I'm not even halt way to the ground when at the bottom of the rope ladder). Others have mentioned that they were able to glitch through the mesh and therefore build on the outside and get down this way but in my best efforts I didn't manage to do that and this sounds wrong on so many levels IMO.

Is creating a new world just to farm those couple missing diamonds really the best option left? If so, this screams very, very bad game design.

Kill orcs and trolls for gems, find them in random chests, or go farm a sandbox world. Seems like the only options.

Also, I think normal is meant for groups not solo players, just putting that out there.

As mentioned, I cleared the mines on both floors. All chests I have found (and looted) do not reset and as such once looted it's basically dead and can't be interacted further, and those items I already have.

I just have the daily respawn (that hardly has any orcs in it and definitely not trolls !) or raids. Some raids send you like 6 goblins while others send you 6 orcs and 10+ goblins. Not sure what this is based on.

And as also mentioned I find game hopping for the sake of progressing with the campaign a bad game design. A single world should provide you, the player, more than enough resources to continue your journey without having to grind for hours and hope that the items you need drop.

In regards to the difficulty level: If this is true, than this game design is even worse than I thought. I guess the majority of players will, solo or multiplayer, start a normal game when they first play this game. Hard is for those who look for the extra challenge. From what I saw on YT, people playing multiplayer complain that this game is to easy. Like in Enshrouded there is a lack of balancing between multiplayer and singleplayer observable, something that actually works quite good in Valheim. Maybe hard it then for multiplayer, normal is for people like me while easy is for those who just want to experience the story and don't want to struggle with all those survival mechanics and the like.

I'm playing through campain and im not having such problems, like when the raid is coming, i just stand out of my base ( not near it, but not so far ) and then just deal with it ( kill the big orcs and the little ones just run away ), and with the black diamonds, i did reach the lift that needs black diamonds to repair it and i've wasted them on my armor, yes, it was just a " oh no " moment, but i just needed to go to those orc camps, clear them and loot their chest ( even some orcs gave me 1 to 2 black diamonds ) so i was already with the lift repaired and with an almost ( not the head because i didn't unlock it yet ) full set that requires black diamonds.

And i didn't go to a sandbox world or anything, i just playing campain, going through history, and, at least, my map seed, is giving me the items i need to progress...

The only exception was, normal is mean for group play and so on, so i just started on normal and tweak it for solo, low dif enemies and horde event, and keep the rest on normal difficulty, and im having a blast :D

Did you kill the named Boss hes right up top baros something name is.

He drops like 8 I think and some other mats and some diagrams

He can be bit tough I had him down to 50% melee, then just got him to with arrows.

I ended up with like 11 black diamonds after I repaired the lift.

I killed one troll think dropped like 1

B4 get to the named Boss you clear out camp or two that has chests that have like half dozen Black diamonds.

Did you open the 2nd name chest in the mines that shows where next Axe pce is show blue icon on the map.

thats where the named boss location is.

As mentioned, I cleared ALL of the camps and enemies that I found (including a large something with armor that I put almost 150 arrows in; was right before the scaffold that leads to the lower area. That boss(?) had like 3 coin stockpiles and a chest), went to every little corner I had access to (some deposits can't be harvested due to the steel pickaxe is to low for these). I even went with some torch back and forth and tried to spot an area where I could have missed an area which I haven't mined yet. I belief I had a troll in front of the lift area as well, but not 100% sure. When playing, I usually don't look at those names and thus focus on staying alive and kill stuff. I'm not even sure how to identify a boss in first place. When opening a new room, I usually dig upwards so that mobs can't rush me and I only open a small hole so that I can shoot arrows through it and retreat when the situation might escalate. As such, lager enemies are usually attacked with arrows and as such I hardly ever get to read their names at all.

One thing I can imagine by reducing the difficulty level is, that you could kill more mobs during a raid and thus increase the likelihood for diamond drops in general. On normal difficulty I only managed to clear like 4-5 raids fully and often times they just disengaged after some time and burried into the ground again. Not sure if every game has the same amount of orc camps and chests or whether one seed has more while the other less and I just happen to be on the lower end of the spectrum. Don't get me wrong, if I didn't have the issue with those missing gems after that raid, I might never have opened that discussion at all as I'd probably be now in the next area.

You can actually get down the Crystal shaft without repairing the Pulley system at all.

Just place some quick platforms and Rope platforms connecting from the existing pulley system leading down, placed correctly, you can jump from the bottom of the ladder and land on a tall object and survive the fall. (I took only half hp dmg last time I did it)

Just remember to bring materials to create more platforms/rope ladders, a hearth and a Map stone for when you get to the very bottom of the shaft. Can use Lambas bread to keep your energy and HP topped off as necessary.

Otherwise, yea the only other way if you didn't manage to get enough Black Diamonds would be to deconstruct all the existing map stones for more and/or create a new world to farm some more.

The lack of Black Diamonds was an issue since the EGS release as well, they added Trolls and Orcs that can drop them now to the Mines zone, but it's still a bit of an issue. Especially once you kill the Orc boss of the mines area, you can no longer farm Orcs/Trolls/Bats from making noise inside the mines.

The boss not troll but named Orc on a Platform he jumps down and says bunch words.

He has ton helpers but once you kill him they all leave.

Then two chest and a Pce of the druine Axe whatever its called.

To get to the boss need climb up what looks to be broken structures.

you build some rope ladders and then climb the last ladder thats all rdy there.

The need past the purple mist, then move farward some you find one decent camp kill them

Then move forward some more you will find a big room with a cricle platform with boss on top.

The room a dead end Btw so kill him collect and leave

you get a lore about ending the Orc line that area.

I say this hope jogs your memory. you may or may not killed him alrdy.

The location to climb not far from the base located in the mines .

This one is quite easy to identify, he actually has a health bar that gets shown at the top of the screen. He's in an area with a lot of orcs coming up on him and also Biteweed growing everywhere. The area is colored red on your map and has a lot of signs of habitation by orcs, not just the small camps they have in the mines. Not easy to miss at all.

However, to get there, I had to go up a shaft full of stairs. Maybe look for that. Though if you explored as diligently as you say, you likely found it already.

OMG, I feel so dumb now.

I spent like 10 hours walking every little corner of the dungeon again and again. By accident I saw the remainings of the ladder construct @Dasmortas was referring to, which is basically also the same construct that allowed me to explore downwards before.

However, since a bear previously went rampage against some orcs/goblins which were there initially, only the upper part was remaining and thus no direct way up was there. After building some planks to get up to what should be the 2nd ladder, I finally found a way upwards and as such the camp so many other players were talking about ... And yes, that area is now colored red on the map. So this should probably be where I'll find the boss you were talking about.

I am stuck in the same position. I don't have enough black diamonds for the stairwell and I've cleared everything.

My ground nodes seem to be glitched as well, since the ones with the diamond sheen in them don't spawn diamonds.. I'm going on 0/50 after having gone through all four of my "Darkest Deeps" that are in my map!
Carnatux Nov 24, 2024 @ 6:39pm
It's dumb but make a new map bring a black.diamond with you and get to first base repair the map stone then break it and take the 3 diamonds and repeat as necessary
