Also, I think normal is meant for groups not solo players, just putting that out there.
I just have the daily respawn (that hardly has any orcs in it and definitely not trolls !) or raids. Some raids send you like 6 goblins while others send you 6 orcs and 10+ goblins. Not sure what this is based on.
And as also mentioned I find game hopping for the sake of progressing with the campaign a bad game design. A single world should provide you, the player, more than enough resources to continue your journey without having to grind for hours and hope that the items you need drop.
In regards to the difficulty level: If this is true, than this game design is even worse than I thought. I guess the majority of players will, solo or multiplayer, start a normal game when they first play this game. Hard is for those who look for the extra challenge. From what I saw on YT, people playing multiplayer complain that this game is to easy. Like in Enshrouded there is a lack of balancing between multiplayer and singleplayer observable, something that actually works quite good in Valheim. Maybe hard it then for multiplayer, normal is for people like me while easy is for those who just want to experience the story and don't want to struggle with all those survival mechanics and the like.
And i didn't go to a sandbox world or anything, i just playing campain, going through history, and, at least, my map seed, is giving me the items i need to progress...
The only exception was, normal is mean for group play and so on, so i just started on normal and tweak it for solo, low dif enemies and horde event, and keep the rest on normal difficulty, and im having a blast :D
He drops like 8 I think and some other mats and some diagrams
He can be bit tough I had him down to 50% melee, then just got him to with arrows.
I ended up with like 11 black diamonds after I repaired the lift.
I killed one troll think dropped like 1
B4 get to the named Boss you clear out camp or two that has chests that have like half dozen Black diamonds.
Did you open the 2nd name chest in the mines that shows where next Axe pce is show blue icon on the map.
thats where the named boss location is.
One thing I can imagine by reducing the difficulty level is, that you could kill more mobs during a raid and thus increase the likelihood for diamond drops in general. On normal difficulty I only managed to clear like 4-5 raids fully and often times they just disengaged after some time and burried into the ground again. Not sure if every game has the same amount of orc camps and chests or whether one seed has more while the other less and I just happen to be on the lower end of the spectrum. Don't get me wrong, if I didn't have the issue with those missing gems after that raid, I might never have opened that discussion at all as I'd probably be now in the next area.
Just place some quick platforms and Rope platforms connecting from the existing pulley system leading down, placed correctly, you can jump from the bottom of the ladder and land on a tall object and survive the fall. (I took only half hp dmg last time I did it)
Just remember to bring materials to create more platforms/rope ladders, a hearth and a Map stone for when you get to the very bottom of the shaft. Can use Lambas bread to keep your energy and HP topped off as necessary.
Otherwise, yea the only other way if you didn't manage to get enough Black Diamonds would be to deconstruct all the existing map stones for more and/or create a new world to farm some more.
The lack of Black Diamonds was an issue since the EGS release as well, they added Trolls and Orcs that can drop them now to the Mines zone, but it's still a bit of an issue. Especially once you kill the Orc boss of the mines area, you can no longer farm Orcs/Trolls/Bats from making noise inside the mines.
He has ton helpers but once you kill him they all leave.
Then two chest and a Pce of the druine Axe whatever its called.
To get to the boss need climb up what looks to be broken structures.
you build some rope ladders and then climb the last ladder thats all rdy there.
The need past the purple mist, then move farward some you find one decent camp kill them
Then move forward some more you will find a big room with a cricle platform with boss on top.
The room a dead end Btw so kill him collect and leave
you get a lore about ending the Orc line that area.
I say this hope jogs your memory. you may or may not killed him alrdy.
The location to climb not far from the base located in the mines .
This one is quite easy to identify, he actually has a health bar that gets shown at the top of the screen. He's in an area with a lot of orcs coming up on him and also Biteweed growing everywhere. The area is colored red on your map and has a lot of signs of habitation by orcs, not just the small camps they have in the mines. Not easy to miss at all.
However, to get there, I had to go up a shaft full of stairs. Maybe look for that. Though if you explored as diligently as you say, you likely found it already.
I spent like 10 hours walking every little corner of the dungeon again and again. By accident I saw the remainings of the ladder construct @Dasmortas was referring to, which is basically also the same construct that allowed me to explore downwards before.
However, since a bear previously went rampage against some orcs/goblins which were there initially, only the upper part was remaining and thus no direct way up was there. After building some planks to get up to what should be the 2nd ladder, I finally found a way upwards and as such the camp so many other players were talking about ... And yes, that area is now colored red on the map. So this should probably be where I'll find the boss you were talking about.
My ground nodes seem to be glitched as well, since the ones with the diamond sheen in them don't spawn diamonds.. I'm going on 0/50 after having gone through all four of my "Darkest Deeps" that are in my map!
