Why is there dinner if by the time the day is done you are exhausted?
This game is damaged by a day/night cycle.

I agree. In a mine you don't have light. What little that does get in doesn't have enough effect to change the constant temperature you see. It doesn't get colder the deeper you go. It's a broken mechanic that just doesn't make sense in mine based game.

You might WANT to go out at night to cause hordes for farming purposes? You can change your sleep schedule to wake up for night time. Options are never a bad thing.

But, how do you know what time of the day it is. Wrist watches didn't exist, the only thing you have is a sun-dial. Very hard to use one of those in a cave, some would say impossible.

This is the reason, definitely. There are good reasons to sleep during the day and hunt at night, if you want riskier game. And also bats.

Also if you pay attention to the actual buffs, they each have a specific purpose. The dinner buff that gives you a short bonus on repairing structures means you should schedule your home repair times at night, before going to bed. If you have the raids and hordes turned up higher, this is a pretty crucial part of the daily rotation.

There's a light and dark cycle. You're not in a cave, you're in Moria. Moria had been a dwarven kingdom for millenia. They managed to (somehow) use a light-conducting crystal to form seams that guide light into the depths. You'll see the ends of those seams in the ceilings everywhere. Sometimes nicely framed, in othercases just a patch of brightly lit crystal.

Inside Moria: Gandalf's staff is the only source of light for most of the journey through Moria, and even that light is dim.

You need to re read the book mate, there are multiple references to light in Moria, including a scene where they literally wake up from daylight.

"He woke and found that a dim light was falling on his face. High up above the eastern archway through a shaft near the roof came a long pale gleam; and across the hall through the northern arch light also glimmered faint and distantly.

Frodo sat up. 'Good morning!' said Gandalf. 'For morning it is again at last. I was right, you see. We are high up on the east side of Moria.'

There was light in the upper halls and the part of Moria outside the mountain. Once you enter the mine there is nothing but darkness. It is a deep dark hole in the ground that went too deep and awoke the beast. A dim glow from a staff and fire from the belly of the beast were the only light. None of this magical stuff existed that far down. Bats live up in the mouth of the cave so they can get outside to eat. It's all made up to make it interesting because a game inside a "mine" just wouldn't be that exciting unless you are a geologist.

Not sure if I get it right but it's your actions that deplete your energy.

If you're constantly sprinting you'll be tired in half a day.

watch the movies again... play the related games... LOOK AT THE FRELLING CEALING FFS!

It is NOT, it never WAS the only source of light they had! You do realize them dwarfs have frelling STUFF in place to actualy MAKE LIGHT do you? Them cristaline structures in some rooms? Their not mithril, their light sources. Not artificial, their in the frelling LORE!

Reality? Yes, would be dark AF. LOTR? Nope, not seeing this. Never was. You could tell when its day and night in either, moria or the lonly mountain. How is that? Dwarfs are smart AND have technology at their disposal.

Worse, since LOTR counts as high fantasy, they have technology AND magic. Like a strange crystal that shines with moonlight if exposed to light and apparently grows in a somehow controllable manner, since those seams of it that guide light deep down under the mountain are mentioned to have been shaped by the dwarves.

Build a roasting pit, advanced cooking recipes restore energy. You will literally never be tired again just by eating.
