Fighting it is more a cinematic experience. Just part of the storytelling.
The one time it did surface to fight, it did so for a single swipe when I logged in, and promptly dove before I could get my bow out, and never resurfaced. The fight music even ended.
Its down there, I can hear it sloshing around, I can even build a pier out to the center of the pool and look down in it's general area (though sometimes they break when I log in), and the tentacles can occasionally be seen flexing, but nothing else.
Oh, for a depth charge....
I don't really need an eldritch abomination, I have a strict 'no tentacles' policy for pets.
okay, try building a small dock outwards from the half submerged middle island. I get about 2 platforms out onto the dock ( I was seeing if I could build a bridge, answer was "no"), and it surfaces.
You'll know you're near when you run into a ton of Spiders and spider nests, also note that the entrance to the library needs to be dug open, and note that Dwarven libraries look... different (but not in a bad way, considering that paper doesn't last very long in wet underground caverns, singing is involved).
