To make the fight much easier make use of the consumables that provide buffs, especially the +damage and stamina dodge buffs. Use a hammer, not a sword or axe. That boss has armour and it does really good damage against him. You can basically infinitely dodge roll with the dodge buff active and nothing will hit you while you are rolling.
When you're fighting one orc, the others have a tendency to hang back. If you turn your back to them, they will dart in and backstab you, so keep turning so your back is protected. And keep hitting the boss.
If you stop hitting the boss, and pause, they will ALL swarm you, simultaneously.
Good news is, when you kill the boss, the rest scatter like roaches. They INSTANTLY run away.
And as macdallan said, use the last alliance hammer. All other damage forms on the first boss are so heavily nerfed that it might take you hundreds of hits to kill him. The hammer takes juicy chunks of health off in each hit. It is literally an utter waste of time to try and use anything else.
