I was playing in the mine and noticed what looked like a compass on the lower left of my screen - every so often it would pulse - what is it and why does it pulse

As you make noise you will draw the attention of the denizens of the level of the mines that you are in. There is always a chance, though I don't know how often or how likely the game checks to spawn enemies, no matter the color of the compass that a horde will spawn but as the compass gets more red it is more likely. Things like mining, singing, fighting, and building will create noise that draws hordes. When you clear out a large orc camp (shown on the map as a series of red-colored rooms) it will make that level safe.

oh, i thought it might be alerting you to ore . but cool . and it is on the lower right hand side of the screen , not the left like I previously stated.
