most of the time the minerals you need to make the next tier of gear are either at the end of the current section you're clearing, or the beginning of the next. keep looking, you'll find it.

Mines of Moria, though I’ve had some worlds where tin was nearly nonexistent. Also had some where I couldn’t find the copper to smelt it with. It’s kinda random.

Mines of Moria - look in the room with a troll in it. Usually a bunch of nodes there.

Can be hit or miss. My last troll room in Moria was just coal.

yes. It can generally be found wherever you can find copper. kind of like the way you can find coal wherever you can find iron.
