It's supposedly some large group effort pulling dozens or more dwarves from all over, but you (+ friends) are like the >only< ones who made it in? Ok....
So:
-Other survivors holed up in buildings that you could rescue and set up as guards, patrols, crafters, or just 'campfolk'.
-Infrequent traveling merchants, or patrols pushing deeper that you can come across or path across main travel routes like goblins providing not only npc interactions, but also possible 'emergent' skirmishes between dwarves and goblins.
-POI camps deeper in where other stationary dwarves offer respite, quests, healing, or even recipes etc.
-Pets to train or rescue to accompany you or just stay at base, maybe even as farm animal (milk, wool, eggs,)
Could be a lot of 'life' breathed into otherwise so dark and solitary Moria, while still keeping it dark and creepy, while also allowing for a little kindle of dwarvenness to take hold and gradually spread their lanterns and outposts down into the depths....
you know.. like the intro kind of suggests... or... just do it all yourself lol.
Exactly. After all we are trying to retake our mountains.
Then we shouldn't be here if "There are no surviving Dwarves..."
You don't go and try to reclaim a mountain with few dwarves...
It really would add to the game, but thats no easy thing.
Oh yes, I don't mean introducing NPCs is an easy task. But it will make the game more popular.

At the large forge in Narvi.

Pipe piece found...put down briefly...piece of pipe disappeared. Game cannot be continued as a result. Searched everything...restarted game. Nothing helps
You sure can! The first time I came across a large forge I didn't find the pipe piece so I ended up crafting one and putting that in place.
And, of course, no even 5 minutes later I located the missing piece...
