Why just Bat Droppings?
I would suggest that any creature that drops meat, drop fertilizer (droppings), also. I would love to start some serious/mass farming.

Why stop there, I'm sure orcs poop too.

Later, you will come back to your base to find bats flapping in mid air all around. In my game, they didn't move or attack. They were just free bat droppings. Towards the end of my playthrough I had several hundred unused bat droppings, and more planters then I ever really needed.
I have completed the game and probably never amassed more than 20-25 Bat Droppings in total. I would really like to invest in more than 2 or 3 planters.
Got any other suggestions?
27 hours, nearly completed tier 4 set with a tier 5 weapon...I've only seen 5 bats in that time.
Where did you build bases? My main base was near the west gate. Within sight of the very first wrecked base made by Balin. When I returned from adventuring, I found whole packs of bats silently flapping their wings in the area. They didn't attack or move. I'd just shoot them all. My base was opposite the waterfall. That whole end of the river lines up perfectly with parts that players can build. I rebuilt the 2 story house on the south side of the river into a 3 story one, and then build entirely new buildings around it.

Also bats are a common enemies in orc towns, and also show up in hordes. So farm orc towns (go in, kill, but don't kill the spawners, and just keep repeating) and farm hordes.

I went out of my way to bring hordes. I deliberately made as much noise as possible. When mining out nodes, I tunneled up and into the node in a corkscrew. I'd put down repair stations, hearths, etc all INSIDE the node. When I triggered the horde to come, I was fully prepared to fight and kill them all... just for the various drops like black diamonds. I could retreat into the corkscrewing tunnel I'd made in the deposit. I had massive stacks of unused black diamonds, and teleporters everywhereeeeeeeeee. And that's probably where half the bat droppings came from, just from fighting the hordes.
I find it to be really hit or miss how rare bats can be for your world. Sometimes they're super common, other times they're incredibly rare. Given how farming is a naturally useful thing for making later game recipes, I do think there needs to be something done to make the droppings a little more consistent to acquire.
after you clear out the first orc town, probably any orc town, if you go back and hang around there a while you'll see a patrol spawn in. was only getting 2 or 3 at a time and wanted to see if not killing them would bring in more, since they weren't dropping much as it was. I climbed up on that center round raised platform where the boss starts at and just kept moving to where they couldn't shoot me, and they still wouldn't climb up, but after a while they called in bats instead of more orcs/goblins. got 3 or 4 droppings each time I did this. became part of my daily rounds, like picking the stuff for the lembas.
Apparently I drew the short straw when it comes to Bats. Hence my suggestion. Not sure how it would unbalance anything. Why would you object?
was just offering an alternative, I got enough droppings from farming bats that they spawn in at the boss arenas to have more than enough farm plots. not likely they'll change the game, but if there's a game mechanic that works instead why not try it?

5 bats? Lucky one! I finished game within 76h and during the game I met 1 (one!) bat over all gameplay. That one was in redhorn caverns.
None by sieges, as its being suggested here.
Someone also recommended to get on high place during siege, that it force to spawn more bats. Heh. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Orc were happily demolishing my place and no single bat appeared.
So Im asking - where the hell are all those bats?
if it any helps you can utilise building scroll buffs to build them for free , et construct and deconstruct till it procs for free , thats how i got 7 planters and my stack of guano is still unused

this works for any expensive/rare drop structure well

I went through an entire campaign run, had about 60 scrolls and almost as many tomes in my shelves that I studied many times, and never once did it allow me to build anything useful for free. It seemed like the chance for a freebie was super low. I didn't just sit there the whole building and deconstructing, but I would have thought if I made 5 new plots at least 1 would've been a freebie. I gave up after reaching Dwarrowdelf and just moved plots from old camps to the newest one. Once I had about 2 dozen that was all I needed.

I think they patched that recently so you can’t duplicate resources anymore. Feel like I saw that in some patch notes.

Also in recent patch notes, I think bats in hordes were removed.

Not during sieges/hordes, what you do is go to an Orc town boss arena after you've cleared it out. Hang out there for a few minutes and a patrol spawns in, usually 2-3 orcs. Get their attention so they start engaging, then climb up the ladder to the circle platform. Run around or block their arrows and after a bit they get frustrated and do a scream and then bats spawn in and attach you. You can anywhere from 2-7 bats each time from what I saw. Got all the droppings I needed that way.

You can even keep the same patrol there after clearing out the first bat spawn and after a few more minutes they'll call in another. Or come back later and repeat. Not sure if it matters, but I was doing this at the first or 2nd town boss arenas. The orcs won't climb the ladder, but you may have to pop an arrow in them or jump down and take a swing to keep them engaged if they get bored and start to wander off. It only takes patience.
