The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria™

Let me get this straight
This is an open world survival game.
With no stats?
No stats on Equipment?
No levels?
No skills?
No character specific progression?

It's "Return to Moria" kingdom building game.
With no one actually returning to moria?
With no actual kingdom being formed?

It's "Lord of the rings".
With no rings and no lords?
With no real ties to Lord of the rings, other than the most basic setting?

These are questions I'm *asking*, as this seems to be the general impression I get from reading the reviews. They are not rhetorical.

Thanks.

return to moria is similar to valheim but simplified. if you like that you will most likely like this.

who said there needs to be all that in a survival game for it to be good? some of the best survival games, in fact, are the ones without that (Darkwood, for example). "Lord of the rings" with no rings and no lords?" at this point I know you are just trolling, but I wish you would give this game a chance, its really great.

I mean, the entire game is set in Moria, which is, in fact, in Lord of the Rings' general setting. Not sure how much more of either Moria or Lord of the Rings you want from that. It doesn't contain any direct ties to anything outside Moria, because that's not the setting of the actual game, but the plotline of the game is something that follows relatively naturally from the main story.

I feel relatively certain there -are- stats on gear (certainly some armor is better than others), but those stats do not appear to be player-facing. Not sure if that helps or hinders your impression here.

Also, there is at least 1 ring and lord both in the game, but I won't explain further as both are plot spoilers.

Progression is entirely linked to gear and gear does have stats, they’re just not displayed.

You can see the effect that gear has on stats when you open up the stat window. Not sure why they decided to obfuscate what each piece of gear actually does for you...

I grabbed screen shots of the stat window with a helmet and no helmet to show the effect on armour, and both with and without my sword equipped to show the effect on the damage stats:

Not really trolling. Just noticing that, according to reviews, it simply is not Lord of the Rings.

Yes, that answers two of my questions. "There are stats, but you, as the player, aren't allowed to see... and thus aren't allowed to make informed decisions on tradeoffs" is a *huge* no for me.

So, there *is* an actual plot? And it's tied to Lord of the Rings? Thanks. The reviews made it sounds like there wasn't.

Which is worse that not having stats at all. Without informed decisions... the game just isn't fun for me.

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for. The reviews explicitly stated there were no stats... as in no stat screen at all.

As long as there is a stat screen, and I can see the before/after of equipping gear. I'm golden!

Gear is a linear material progression (Wood<Metal<Elven etc.) So I don't understand what "informed decision" you mean... it's not like Enshrouded or Skyrim where loot has variable stats, you craft a set... then a better set and so on until the end...

You're welcome. The stat screen along with the description on each item can help you make an informed decision about what you want to use but I really don't understand why they chose to have a detailed stats screen but also hide the information for each specific item.

You can't always trust reviews, some of the folks writing reviews spent less than an hour playing so they probably didn't even find the stats screen...

Yeah, I mean I've not finished the game yet but I've gotten to Dwarrowdelf with three separate dwarves and not once knew that such a screen existed for stats. They're very hidden.

^this. as i said above. this is similar to valheim almost to every aspect.

@fibulator you said you didnt like valheim but, you might enjoy this as it isnt as complex as valheim is.

this is fake news i have played the game for 400 hours and when you return to moria gimli and legolas are there and they say "this is your return to moria" and then after you play for a while gandalf shows up and says "now you are the lord of the rings" and he gives you a ring so that is why this is fake news
