Can you mine anywhere?

I played this game like 2 years ago? Can't remember. And after an hour I realised that you can only dig through the terrain that game wants you to mine.

Today, can you dig in any direction, without limits? Is it like Minecraft already? Or is this game still limited by those "sad walls of dirt" that are made to be mine for like 10 seconds?

I mean, what I loved about minecraft the most, was digging through a large mountain, hoping to find a giant cave or some forgotten mining platform, whatever. Is it doable here?

Nope, can't mine just anywhere. This isn't Minecraft. Not every survival game has full unrestricted performing and video terrain, in fact the majority dont. Plus lore wise it makes no sense to just mine anywhere as you are trying to restore Moria, not strip mine and collapse the place.

Plus if you could Mine anywhere you would be able to just skip the entire game and tunnel into the last boss room.

Resources don't respawn. I made another game world just to do more mining. Your character can carry over to other game worlds you create.
