Difficulty Curve too steep-
I enjoyed this game for a while, but i have to say it is just getting too difficult for a casual game after a while. Every monster is either completely immune to melee or spell attacks, armor and shields work for npcs all the time, and basically never for the player characters, the cards you get distributed dont make sense (having more than 25 of 36 cards being attack cards and only getting armor and movement cards for three turns). Im now around level 8, and its no longer fun, its just a constant source of anger.

You need to adapt your decks for each particular adventure.
If you do, it will be easy enough to progress till around level 13.
This game is challenging, but balanced enough.

That is a totally probable scenario. That's only 6 of your 11 non-attack cards. If you find this happening to you too often, though, you probably need to adjust your deck. This thread has a lot of good advice in it (after the original complaints): http://forums.cardhunter.com/threads/how-do-i-stop-this-happening.6901/

If the game is a *source of anger*, however, I can only recommend you put it down. Card Hunter is a great game but no game is worth anger IMHO.

The odd stretch of nothing but movement and armor for 2-3 turns is somewhat mystifying.

Responded to you in the other thread... it's perfectly normal and things would actually be far weirder if gluts of non-attacks didn't occur. :)

Powerful though you may be, IantirXP, you are not a Card Hunter yet. Study the enemy, you must...

:krskull:Skeletons, for example, cannot be harmed by slashing or piercing damage.
:krskull:Trogs, idiots though they are, have many Armor 4 Cards at their desposal and must be dotted with reoccuring damage (like burning or poison) to EVENTUALLY get through to them. Get them on a straightaway like a bridge, and their armor's pushback ability will have them 5 squares away (and still on fire/poisoned) where they can't harm you!

Also of note:
:blingwrench:Card distribution always garuntees you 1 movement card per round.
:blingwrench:Enemies that spend their turn taking 1 step away just to get out of range can be dealt with, with spears, lunge-thrusts, spells and the like. Don't let them get away and charge their spells or recieve their better cards.
:blingwrench:The card Firestorm. Find it. Use it. Love it.

There is no catch-all strategy. You must learn. You must adapt your deck to the situation. You must rise higher if you wish to be a true Card Hunter! Don't give up!

Acid and boiling armor is a great solution to either.

I personally find the 'Pay-to-Win' aspect of this game most annoying. It definitely contributes to the 'too tough' aspect. You gotta join the 'club' and buy 'pizza slices' or your going to be in for a tough road. I would have preferred to pay for the game and have none of that stuff. Again... just my opinion.

The campaign is perfectly beatable without paying to win... and even without the tedious "farming" that is the free-to-play standard. The 'club' just makes it a little easier, but you can get the same exact advantage by playing a few (just a few) extra missions.

However, I personally hate the free-to-play model because I feel that it is far too expensive. I mean, this is a good $10-20 game, but $100?

I completely agree. I am now stuck, and cannot continue any further. I am level 14. Unfortuneately for both the devs and myself I cannot conttinue to play and therefore cannot have any fun or spend any more money on pizza. Oh well, at least the game was free and fun while it lasted.

If you actually feel that it's unfortunate, I suggest you make an effort to connect with players, seek advice, maybe play the missions you're stuck on in co-op mode (with a more experienced player, who might be able to point out your mistakes). I am not saying the game is a walk in the park but you can definitely complete the campaign without spending any money or grinding at all. Most of the places folks get stuck just require a different approach—different characters, a different item build, etc.. And unless you've been selling every item you're not using, you should have lots of options without needing to hit the shops.

My 2¢ -- good luck!

Now Im not immune to getting burn out or frustrated at what seems too hard, but I assure you getting past lvl 14 is very doable in a number of ways.

#1 tip from another new player, replay all the stuff you've already played before, collect more loot with different options. The stuff near your level that still gives XP, run it till you level again.

There is no pay-to-win aspect of the single player campaign, and it's not in any way unbeatable.

The most difficult scenario for me took me perhaps 8 tries to complete. Usually, a couple of failures is sufficient to show you what card types you need in your deck. Then you adjust your deck accordingly and should be through in the next couple of tries.

Some things to look out for:

1) Damage types. Some mobs are resistant or even immune to certain damage types. Obviously, you need to replace any cards you have with those damage types.

2) Big hitting mobs. Some scenarios have mobs that can easily one- or two-shot you. Stack a bit more movement for these so you can keep out of range/LoS. Also helpful to put armour, damage prevention spells, or blocks.

3) For slow moving mobs, like zombies, a ranged deck can make life easier.

4) Some scenarios have low HP but big-hitting mobs. Use big hitting attacks to finish them before they can land many hits on you.

5) Some mobs block a lot, particularly missile blocks. Look for cards with "hard to block" on them for this, or use fast movement to get behind them where they can't block.

6) The AI in this game is not bad, but it is reasonably easy to use terrain effects to manipulate some of the mobs.

7) Choke points can be useful when you are out-numbered. Most maps have a narrow place you can use to fight the mobs 1 or 2 at a time while their friends watch helplessly.

8) Don't forfiet scenarios before you've actually lost them. It's surprising how often a seemingly lost cause suddenly becomes winnable. I was once down to my last warrior and he had only 5 HP, against two big brutes, but I led them around the map thanks to his quickness aura and eventually managed to kill them both and win.

9) Think about your moves carefully. Might sound patronising, but I still frequently have times where I kick myself after making a slightly hasty move.

Unlike most zombie realities, setting zombies on fire is a great idea.
Sentient_Toaster Aug 20, 2015 @ 8:24pm
Setting EVERYTHING on fire is usually a great idea. :D Rather few enemies are immune to it, even enemies that you might expect to be fire-immune like burning skeletons, and certain fire attacks (firestorm, volcano) scale very well.

Firestorm spam is easiest with dwarf wizards (highest health of the wizards) and maybe a priest if you're worried about burning to death before the enemies due or you draw your resistant hide and become fire-immune.

Regarding AI behavior... keep an eye out for shielding tokens (rare, so 100 gold in Randimar's or Daily Deal when it shows up). It's pretty bad at reacting to Impenetrable Nimbus, and a shielding token is the most token-efficient way of getting them AFAIK (one minor token => two nimbuses).

HahahahaHaaa! Thats SO funny. It may not be unbeatable (as long as you are happy grinding through it)... but don't even try to tell me there is no pay-to-win aspect. I mean...COME ON! You do know what that means right? The fact that there is a club and pizza slices that you PAY for... and both of which help you to WIN... me thinks you're just trying to annoy people. I guess whatever floats your boat.
