Anyone have an idea what the blood droplets do?

You get them for clearing stages in the campaign, but I haven't seen a clear use for them yet. Is it just a scoreboard thing?

Having them raises your top speed, yeah, and you get them for killing monsters.

You can also collect blood pools from other racers if they are killed to get all of their droplets (or your own back).
