Black Mirror 1 Crash:-(

Hi all,

I know you've written about this bug before but I've tried all the solutions mentioned and non has worked. I really don't want to give up on this game! and I paid for it! Can't steam give us a patched up version? how can we approch them about it?

I'll repeat the problem:
In certain places (for me it's when I try to speak with robert and generally in a lot of the dialogs) - the game does this weird and annoying screeching noise and crashes back to desktop (sometime it just does the noise without the crash).

I tried deleting the "majer.chr" - it just made Samuel's charcther disappear and when I went to the next room, there was only a black screen...

Also tried going back to XP Windows compatibility (service 3) - didn't do anything.

Did anyone manage to beat this problem in some other way?

This is a problem of a certain english version of the game that happens on a lot of systems. There also exist a different english version of the game that does not have this problem.

The only solution I know is to exchange some files of the bugged version for the respective files of the working version. Problem is that of course people who bought the bugged version don't have the working version. To get the working version or files of the working version without buying the working version is illegal.

So the only real solution is that the company Nordic Games who released the game here on Steam exchanges the bugged version for the working version. On GoG they released the working version (they retracted the game later on again but because they disagreed with GoG's new pricing system). So they have a working version.

Question is how do you get Nordic Games to exchanged the game version.

Adventures are generally not a big deal on Steam. So if you write to Steam about the problem it probably doesn't seem that important to Steam compared to some bugs in a triple-A action-game with hundreds of people complaining about.

So I suggest that all people who have this problem with the english Steam version write to Nordic Games itself, mention that the english GoG version was ok while the english Steam version is still not and ask them to exchange the current english Steam version for the one that was used for GoG.

I sent my two cents worth to Nordic Games using the link. Thanks--I hope all the Steam users having that sound crash problem do the same...I am a bit surprised that it has not been fixed already if it is just a few sound files that need to be replaced. I would probably have bought BM2 and 3, but won't if this problem is not addressed. Don't the devs/publishers read this forum? Hard to believe they know about the issue and have not fixed it since it seems to be an easy thing for them to do.

BM2 and 3 aren't published by Nordic Games so you can buy them with confidence.

Ok, so ... what ? We just have a non functional product and that is all ?

Nothing worked for me. My copy is unplayable: every time I go to talk with Robert, there is that sound glitch and the game crash. End of game.

Can somebody clarify this ?

I PAYED for this game and I want to PLAY this game !!

Avcajraville - That's exactly what happens to me...and so far nobody bothered to send a reply to my mails about it to Nordic and the QA team mentioned before...

That is a super crazy situation ... I bought this game, pay for it, and they dont care. The delivery a product that IS NOT working...

Even worst, just need to replace some files, and that is, fixed. But of course you have to get those files from "a security copy", if you know what I mean ...

Very crazy...

I am really disappointed and also surprised that noone seems to want to take responsibility for fixing what is a very simple problem. Not the publisher, not the developer, and not Steam--you would think something like this would have been fixed in a few hours after it was discovered...
