I hadn't found it yet...just tried after reading your answer. It works! Thousand thanks :)
The devs really ought to have at least bound the menu to esc in addition to their little icon. The days of every game having it's own entirely unique user interface, layout, menus, and keybinds are supposed to be long gone (for the better). No one likes to have to fish for how to control or exit a game. If you have to look online to find out how to access the menu or what the keybinds are for a game you are playing, then there was some oversight in the development process. Just saying.
I had no trouble at all finding it but then again I played many adventure games and this was the standard back in the day (no offense to anyone who missed the golden age of adventures).
The game's twelve years old.
There should be at least a hint that the menu is there. :-/

I gave dgVoodoo a shot too, hoping running the game through it would let me scale up to a high resolution so at least the characters look sharp, but it just introduced some visual problems and slowdowns to the game so I stopped.
