Completely agree with you, i still play Sim golf as today, and i truly think of just the UX and UI was up to modern time, the game would have no competitors out there!
What we will have hard time to achieve for sure is the Sim part, that in Sim golf is super complex and branched out.
As for the timescale i don't have any official information right now, but we have done some research and we have found cool stuff like this:

Also there would frequently be fans on the ice in brawls with players, sometimes dozens of them. Said he broke his nose like 5-6 times a year. He has pictures of those crazy brawls too.
No Plexiglas above the boards of course, just chicken-wire. Only straight sticks and no masks even for goalies because people couldn't lift it with power as much and had to kind of chip at it more.
