[SPOILERS] Suggestions regarding the end of the game
As I was playing the game, I was preparing myself to "run away" from any form of danger. I was ready to set the navigation objective somewhere far away so that I could then quickly switch the power to thrusters and escape whatever might be trying to kill me / eat me (as reading the decrypted files was hinting at this happening).

To my slight disappointment, it seems like even though you can seemingly move away from the threat at the end of the game, the game plays out the final "scene" the same way as if you hadn't tried to escape at all, even though, if you do try to escape, you see yourself actually moving in the navigation menu, but taking photos shows you only getting closer to the mimic planet.

So with all of this being said, here's three ideas, going from easiest to implement to hardest.

1) Once the mimic latches onto your spacecraft, the thrusters system could be disabled / compromised to not give player any hope of escaping, leaving them with the only option of taking photos to watch their own demise.

2) Allow players to try to escape, only to let them see their own signature in the navigation menu getting pulled back into the location of mimic planet even as they try to run away from it, perhaps playing some different sounds such as stronger metal straining and scarier, angered sounds from the mimic in response to the player trying to run.

3) Allow players to effectively escape by quickly flying next to the star in the final level to burn the mimic's tongue, making it release hold of the spacecraft before it's too late, leading to a different ending.

I am completely fine with none of this being implemented or even considered to be implemented, as the game itself is pretty great and scary regardless of the little potential oversight mentioned above.

oh yeah 1 is what's supposed to happen, I'm going to fix it tomorrow. It would be fun to add an alternate ending or two though I might do that soon

Just wanted to add to this, when I encountered the end scenario my first idea was also to try and escape. When it failed I assumed I had been too slow in redirecting power to navigation and then thrusters. I tried a few things before reaching the conclusion that escape wasn't possible.

One of the things I tried was to turn power off for everything, even life support. I figured that it might make the thing you encounter lose interest. I think it would have been an interesting way to deal with the situation, had it worked. It would have added a bit more purpose to having control over life support.

I enjoyed the game anyways. Trying things out to try and alter the outcome was interesting in itself.
