Win11 and Win 10 Fix
Hi guys.

I and stahlhart find a solution for steam version of the game. We create a patch to recover the 1.43.85 version. Just grab those files in the link and change in the folder of the game. Set win7 compatibility mode and thats it.

Okay, I misunderstood -- sorry about that.

I don't think that it's a copy protection issue causing the Steam version of the game to not launch -- if we could still run the client on Windows 7 the game would work fine there. Something about how they updated 1.44.12 is not compatible with Windows 10/11. The files from 1.43.85 that we are overlaying on to the Steam installation are substituting the incompatible files with compatible ones. The remainder of the game files don't cause any launching problems.

If I were to install that full 1.43.85 version of the game on either a Windows 10 or Windows 11 build, it works correctly. And dgVoodoo just cleans it up a bit more, removing the green border around the game window if you run it at 4:3 on a 16:9 monitor, fixing the non-rolling tank treads, and providing more display resolution options.

Just tried in Windows 10 running a 6900xt GPU and 5800x3d CPU. When I start the game, the screen gets zoomed in for about 10 seconds, and then the game quits. Nothing starts up.

Can you post the contents of your xubl.log file?

Another thing to try: open settings.db file with a text editor and set fullscreen=0 to see if it launches windowed.

If we could find a complete game at version 1.44.07 and not just the single level demo, it would be easy. The restructuring of the code at version 1.44.12, whatever it was, is what broke the game for Windows 10/11. I've been searching but have had no luck, a full 1.44.07 may not even exist.

DOW works great on Linux Bazzite so far, i think its the better way to play in modern hardware (steamOS too)

So the game can work in a virtual machine with that Linux distribution? How can we do that?

I dont know much about virtual machine, i download Bazzite in oficial website for my old PC (A10 7860, 16gb, RX 560 4gb) and instal the game and run! i think you can try dual boot or VM, but i cant give any advice about this

Ok, no problem. I also want to play that game. I tried to run it in virtual machines with older Windows versions but didn't work.

I was running your patch without dgVoodoo and it resulted in tank treads not being animated and Tiger I missing its turret.

dgVoodoo fixed this but it was a bit tricky to get it running. I used dgVoodoo version 2.83, x86 .dlls. I couldn't get the game to start if I set my adapter to my 4060, but selecting Intel UHD Graphics worked. Here are my settings which so far worked flawlessly:

General tab
Output API - Direct3D 12 (feature level 11.0)
Adapter - Intel UHD Graphics
Windowed
Scaling unspecified

DirectX tab
Videocard - GeForce 9800 GT, VRAM 1024 MB
Resolution - unforced
Antialiasing - 8x
Force vSync on

Running the exe with Win 7 compatibility.

Thanks for the thread, I bought the game some time ago and was sad I couldn't run it. Remembered it recently, found your thread and got the game running.
