Having a game which has more than 4 players splitscreen would be absolutely ground breaking because theres never been a game which has had more than 4 player splitscreen
There is a curator page on steam called 'More Than 4 Local Multiplayer' and you can see there are a lot of games like this with 8 players and more.
Most famous games supporting 8 local players are Super Smash and Duck game.
Best steam game supporting VR + concurrent non-VR playerrs (1 + 4 players) is Davigo.
I also have thons of other 8 player (or more) games, and yeah, switch and Xbox support 8 controllers, the only one that still only support 4 controllers max is playstation!
4 players is not a party, more games with 8 or more players plz!
Check out this great curator:

Fling to the finish have 8 player support and only needs to split the screen in 4!
Would be cool if the original Chicken Horse could get official 8 player support, (I know there is a mod)
So you've never heard of Screencheat, have you? :p
Just a reminder that just because a game can support lot of players (like 8 local players), it doesnt mean everyone can do it. One main reason why a lot of "party games" were limited to 4 players is because of family compositions. Few families have 4+ kids (with enough interessed at video games), and very few parents would play video games with their childrens. And not all of those kids have enough friends who will always be availible to play video games (school friends wont be always in the same town as you, unless you make enough preparations and plan a whole session).
Main point is, for local play, it's very difficult as a kid to even reach 8 players, especially without social medias. Also, with 4 average / decent players, you already have enough to have crazy parties (weither you like chaos co-op with Overcooked, or to completely screw your friends with Dokapon Kingdom). But if there are players of different skill levels, the party wont be equally fun for everyone.
Of course, with online play, that limitation is easily removed, leaving only technical performance (8-P smash bros is already very impressive) and in-game visibility (although debatably usefull, tetris 99 show all 99 players's boards, others players being very small at first) as the main roadblocks for multiplayers games. There is also design choice to think about: does having a lot more players in 1 session actually give the game a big interest? (Is having a 32-player mario party playable without becoming boring?). Or do you design a game with a specific number of players in mind for balance? (ultimate chicken horse was designed with 4 players in mind. Some players use a mod to make 8 players games, but as expected, it's more difficult to play with the limited space of some levels)
More isnt always better. There is a thing such as having "too much" of a good thing. That includes number of players in a game. Some players enjoy pure chaos fun, others enjoy fair games. It's up to the devs to try to reach a balance.
Nice, is that Halo PC version? Which one supports 8 players?
