No Scenery when loading x-plane
Hi guys,

Got a real strange one here, have installed Xplane three times and still getting the same issue. No scenery files are being loaded irrespective of the airport I choose, and I have all of the scenery packs.... Has anyone got any clues on how to fix? Many thanks in advance for advice!

<Update!>

Silly me - didn't take note of the 'View Downloadable Content' option on the drop down to also install the relevant scenery pack - What a Dofus I am - please disregard!

From an embarrased player...

Just for your information, There are hundreds of amazing scenery, aircraft, plugins etc that are available for xp 10 and you really do have to add a lot to this simulator as there are not very many default airports and locations.

A good place to start would be http://x-plane.org/ and you will get most things you need from there, but there are a great many other flightsim sites where you can find tons of great free and payware addons.

Many thanks...

Must admit though that I've had little chance of playing the simulator - am running Alienware 16GB Ram with 1TB SSD and its still impossible to see any scenery because the graphics setting had to be set to less than minimal - and even then the simulator is virtually unplayable because the graphics are set so low!

Anyway, thanks for the advice concerning the website to get the stuff...

Hmmm... I have 'only' 8GB Ram & 1TB bog standard HD - the rest is an AMD FX6300 CPU (4.02Ghz) and 2GB Nvidia GTX6600. X-Plane v10.30b8. Loads of add-ons (plugins). Most settings are around high or very high and I'm running around 22 - 25 FPS parked on the ramp at EGLL (Aerosoft airports) - around 30 FPS if I look down into the 3D cockpit (FlightFactor 757), and around 35+ FPS when bouncing around the sky.

In short, I think you should be getting better performance than you seem to be implying:

X-Plane doesn't always "auto-guess" a system's capabilities very well, and usually it chooses very basic display options until the user goes in and makes changes.

Thanks for the comments Glennives60 and Rattner219. Am going to try again since I'm very surprised Glennives60 that you're able to run at such a high setting against my spec where I'm only able to run on low settings. I've managed to find this artlcle: http://www.x-plane.com/?article=setting-the-rendering-options-for-best-performance - I'll go through that article in an attempt to optiimize the simulator...

Is your Alienware a laptop? Are you sure the openGL drivers are current, or working at all? I'm sure it has no problems with DirectX, but X-Plane being cross-platform with Mac and Linux, does not support it.

If the hardware settings page in X-Plane says "software rendering" that is your problem.
