If you rename that and make a copy of UFO.exe called "launcher-x64.exe" then the launcher calls your renamed file and not their full-page ad.
You're welcome.

The publisher added a launcher. -_-

oh god! not another game adding a launcher.

at a guess i am assuming the are going to use it to try and advertise other games, this game did not need a damn launcher!

I would tolerate it if it came with some fixes, but nothing else was changed.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

It is not. But yeah, it's a bit insulting that they updated a finished, twenty year old game, not to fix the glaring flaw, but to ad an advertisement I have to click through before I can start the game that didn't have an ad when I paid for it.

wow so all of us still this 20 year old game installed? it has been lurking installed on mine for soo long as I wanted to play :D but always delay it

It's aged surprisingly well. I didn't even discover it until two or three years ago, I want to say. The real-time with pause system is basically a simultaneous turns system except you don't have to mash the turn key and you can give orders in advance. And it works well with the real-time geoscape. It comes across as a knock-off on the store page, but it was originally created by Gollop. I would argue that it's the XCOM we would have gotten in an alternate universe where he had the money to finish the game. Overall, a neat piece of gaming history.

I played a lot more the other 2 games in the serie but I still intend to finish this one day. It's pretty fun although I find that the system has issues, namely moving around while keeping a coherent strategy can get tedious when enemies aren't found. So it's tempting to randomly click around but it makes it painful when getting caught off guard by the enemy.

I could scream. I played this thing a fair bit when I was a child and had a physical copy, and I just recently got into replaying this after so many years, and just as I do it they start changing this too, and I am not seeing fixes, I'm seeing LAUNCHERS.

You can get the whole series on GOG without any kind of DRM for $3.39 right now. That's what I did, and then I compressed everything in a folder so it couldn't get updated later.
