Alien power cells

So according to the game, when I click on a power cell it has a capacity of 1000. If we assume that means the amount of shots it has in it, as a standard rifle ammo has a capacity of 30 or so, then how come my laser rifle can nearly deplete its ammo in one mission after a few encounters with aliens? 1000 shots means I should never need to carry a spare power cell, right?

Nope. Different energy weapon got different consume. ~100 per shot laser and ~200 per shot plasma, ~300 per shot warp rifles, etc. I have no actual numbers, but thats how it works in general.

Thanks for the info, but is that listed in game anywhere? I went looking for it in the weapon info on the equipment screen but could see nothing :(
