Can i play this without using voice chat?

I don't use VC on anything. Are there pre-determined chat messages i could use?

Not really, aside from the pre-game lobby. Only way you can type in-game is by sending emails or typing / writing up stuff on the computer and printing it off.

This game is a lot better with VC though. You can not use it but it'll definitely be a lot harder to engage with the other players if you don't use voice

Well, I will add to the upper comment that you can nod and shake your hand by moving your mouse, so it could help. You can also point at people with the mouse. We have had some non-mic users in the lobby, but it definitely doesn't hit the same.
