Games ending early after 45 minutes

If the host leaves the game, does the round end early? I've had a few rounds end early in a manner that seemed kind of like a crash - but my other friends in the game also got kicked out at the same time. It seems like the host left and the lobby closed. Is this how it works?

If so - Why would it be this way?

If the host realizes they are going to lose after a 45 minute game... they can just waste everyone's time and leave early. Or what if they just have to dip out early since games can take forever? Seems like a huge oversight to me.

Unfortunately that seems like the case? A lot of the time the host just dips for whatever reason, while other times the host ends up crashing and the whole lobby disbands
