You don't, but your experience with the game can definitely vary depending on who's in the lobby. Sometimes you can have a lot of goofy fun with people, other times you get stuck with people trying to make this game as obnoxious as possible and people who think screaming out the N-word and other racial slurs = funny (although if that sounds up your alley, then that's good for you since a good portion of the playerbase loves throwing racial slurs everywhere)

Basically it's always more fun with friends, but in this game, you don't really have to. To be honest? you'll probably make a few new friends here because the game is just hilarious no matter who you play with or how you play it....it's super enjoyable

I don't know enough people with this game to have a massive private lobby, so I've only ever played public lobbies. They definitely can be more fun if you have some friends playing with you, but generally the public lobbies I have joined have all been excellent, and they would have been just as good without a friend joining.

I played a game yesterday where a bunch of us started a cult called the Cigarette Club where we would all smoke in the office and work to get power and control the manager, and this was with totally random players haha.

As with all games, you do get the occasional toxic player who goes about screaming slurs, but most people I've met have been great.
