purpose of the janitor
I recently got to play as a janitor for the first time and after the round I started to wonder what this role is actually good for.
- The janitor has one task, which is always the same, but on most servers I've seen the janitor productivity is set to 0%, so completing this task doesn't actually do anything except from making the office look cleaner
- If you were a specialist like I was in my janitor round, you can spend your time looking around the office and trying to find out who the slacker is. Also you can easily re-activate servers or extinguish fires because you don't have many other things to do and you have a key for every door. But in that case, you're more like an assistant than a janitor, so is that really the right way to play?
- And if you were a slacker, whose side are you on after you became janitor? If you still want the slackers to win, you would just troll like locking doors, throwing away someones mouse etc. In that case, it would make sense to imediately fire the janitor a second time, but then you could've removed the role all together, atleast for the slackers.
- On the other hand, if a slacker switches the team when they become janitor, couldn't they instantly reveal the other slackers and end the game? You could say that you play with a rule of honor that the slacker janitor must not reveal their former teammates. But then, they have to remain silent in any following discussion and if they also can't get any productivity from their only task, their role is totally pointless.

What do you think about that? Am I missing some obvious points here? Or do you agree with me?
From my point of view, I would say the best solution would be that only specialists can become janitors after being fired and the janitor productivity should be 1 or 2%, depending on the number of players, which is lower than the normal productivity, but not 0.

I got made the janitor after getting "fired", and always had the task of throw trash away.

Discovered I could lock doors and throw people's computer mouse away.

So that was a giggle, it was the first time I played the game online, and then got kicked from the lobby.

So - I guess folks don't like that.

It would be kind of good to see some sort of etiquette for the game, maybe in the lobby.

Also, if the janitor ins't supposed to cause chaos in the game, then what is the point of the janitor?

When I was Janitor I played both sides

I play whichever side annoys me. I find infected PCs and lock the extinguishers in the server room at the same time

i feel like the role is solely to give players that are fired early game a chance to genuinely play the game. from my own experience in other social deduction games, its never fun to be the first player out of the match, since you just sit there most of the time, so i think the janitor is very specifically for that purpose. even if you don't get to do much, it still probably beats having to spectate the whole game. and although its technically the players choice who's side they want to pick, i think you still count as being whatever team you were on before getting fired, so im guessing the perks/quirks of the role are more or less fundamentally intended and you are just expected to pitch in for your team regardless.

but of course, not everyone likes to play fair, don't they? :rl2sit:
