When the FIRST Dev diary mentions "saving humanity" centered around an overarching goal of a Powerplant instead of desperately escaping and surviving, red flags IMMEDIATELY spring up.
The whole point is NMRIH 1 was that there IS no hope; Just a story of survivors delaying the inevitable with a FAINT glimmer of temporary escape from the apocalypse.
Releasing with ONE map as well? It's a disgrace to the time and love Lever Games (the original devs) put into recreating the OG maps.
Zombie Kids? You wish; Torn Banner is scrubbing that- They'd rather make an easy profit instead of deal with controversy the OG Devs were mature enough to tackle and stand by. Guarantee they remove the ability to shoot oneself if infected. Not even to mention the failure to ban hackers in Chiv 2, yet willingness to ban their top content creators at the drop of a dime. (RIP Soter Dave)

Don't hold your breath, lads. This ain't NMRIH anymore, I reckon.

Another game with GREAT ideas (just redoing NMRIH in newer Unreal Engine would been amazing) being boughtout and more then likely ruined .....I always loved this game and was so excited for the release last year.... Was really looking forward to it......Now..... just dissapointment really...

Exactly..... never fails! .... I lost all real hope with gaming anymore... Don't get excited for anything because more then likely it will end up in disappointment 9 times out of 10...More corpo input then actual player input as always. ticking another one off the steam wishlist

Unreal Engine is the problem I'd say, sure it can make things look great with it's shaders but it's user-friendliness to use is what kills it and your post kind of proves it.
Anyone can use it, which also means you usually have amateurs working with it trying to create a game which is almost always focused on the graphics more than substantial gameplay of any kind which creates the illusion of it being an "AAA game" solely from graphics.
With the way the NMRIH blogs go I feel
they prioritize graphics waaaay too much especially on making extremely pointless items very detailed for no reason. I love having to upgrade and upgrade my PC just to be able to play games which have 8k textures everywhere and 200 different real-time screen-space effects including ghetto raytracing like Lumen.
I believe that a lot of people nowadays expect a high tier game when they see/hear Unreal Engine but personally I always see and expect an unoptimized, boring slop that looks literally like any other game whenever the engine is used.
It kills distinct art styles if the devs don't play with shaders more.
This ♥♥♥♥ is also just everywhere I look nowadays, UE this game, UE that game, "remake this game in UE5 pls".
Almost every new Early Access game that is not a hentai puzzle game is UE, every mediocre game that looks somewhat interesting is UE, every game that is a scam is UE.

I'm tired of games looking the same, each of them being so horridly unoptimized and making my PC sounding like a jet engine while literally idling on a 60 fps in most games.
