If you have the skills for 1 type of weapon then the ratings change drastically.

Why is the claw hammer S, if you don't mind me asking?
From a glance it looks like it would be hardly better than the tire iron or mallet.

I myself greatly value having the flashlight at a moments notice so unless i get the 2h skills then I don't use them at all.

In my experience the claw hammer hits harder and more reliably than the other weapons that it should line up with. I don't have any numbers or anything to back up my claim and it might be a coincidence or a placebo but that's been my take away

Heavy attack claw hammer 1 head hit regular zombies, tire iron need 2-3 heavy attack due to bad angle at 2nd swing.

Rebar and long pipe not that bad can handle multiple enemies same time and good reach. S tier I agree with, but if you have Rush, Hard Blow, and athlete skills I would choose axe and bat over the rest.

Those 3 from D feel prone to missing imo

Tire iron low A tier or High B tier, damage a liittle a bit higher than lead pipe but less stamina consumption, range is ok, definitely best melee weapon you can buy
Wrench is C, range same as knive, have bad angle of attack, knive better
Machete is SSS+ tier, heavy attack can slash 3 zombie head at a same time while doing very high damage
Shovel is C tier try swing it normally dont use heavy attack, Giant wrench is D tier
I think crowbar is A tier, not S tier

I think this depends more on the skills you have as well, I don't even use any melee weapons on my current build since I got shove master or expert so four shoves with a gun kills most zombies for me.

Having said this best one handed machete for sure, Best two handed Sledge hammer.

claw hammer is definitely my S, Because it has a great attack trajectory and feel to use it, that's the most important for me. Although I haven't done any rigorous comparison experiments, I always felt that it had a great control effect on the corpses

I would put crowbar on A tier, It's good at making HUGE damage, While its light attacks are good at controlling corpses, its heavy attacks are sometimes hard to hit and have a small range for poor control.

This is accurate, although it's kinda sad that cutting off a leg is the best strat in a genre where (in all zombie media: movies and games) we have been taught to go for the head. I guess they could balance this by upping blunt headshot damage a little. Our government issued lead pipe isn't as impactful after the update.

New weapon tier after a lot testing

Fireaxe - Ultra Mega SSS++ tier, range a bit shorter than shovel or leg trimmer but it swing fast and can demolish multiple (even 5 legs) at same time if you jump to the crowd and swing and swipe, also consume less stamina
Shovel - SSS tier, its big and long, feels like wielding giant spoon and scoop zombie leg like butter, consume less stamina
Leg Trimmer - S tier, long and small, have a nice slashing sound
Hatchet , Machete - A tier, Medium range, must charge attack to cut zombie legs
Cleaver , Kitchen Knive - B Tier, close range, must charge attack, although Kitchen knife consume less stamina, Cleaver can cleave wider than knive

All kind of Blunt weapons - Zombie Buffet, Can't survive using this BS beyond classic difficulty

So with the shovel I do heavy attack then alt light attack and it's pretty good at killing in mass.

But idk if this is a new thing but often shovel heavy attacks seems often not interrupt. It feels bugged cus like even the knife heavy attack often stuns zombies that aren't late in their attack or attempting to grab.

I want to like cus in a choke or on a car you can deal so much damage to alot of zombies quickly but the shovel in particular I take chip damage overtime cus I notice fairly often with an heavy attack while you have stam won't stun or interrupt randomly
