its not a skill issue when everyone is dead before the game even starts.
Like already been said, there is a free weekend so test it by yourself and don't rely on what ppl say. It starts today at 4pm euro time.

Melee: They die pretty fast if you combo your hits otherwise is slow and tedious dead.
Guns: normally 1 headshot kills the zombie (not special ones like riot one) there is a problem with the 9mm having to shoot 2 times in the head for a kill which is ridiculous but may change in future you can buff it with skills but still, is rare to resist 9mm to the head.
Most of the release issues wasn't related to how the guns actually hit, but mainly the lag making to where the hits didn't even register. This is outside of the shotgun issue where even multiple headshots didn't drop a regular zombie. Red-eye zombies actually couldn't die from body shots back then, but that isn't the case anymore.
But that was back then. Firearms are pretty reliable and drop zombies dead with ease, with the shotty now being ridiculously good. Some firearm calibers may require 2 headshots (9mm, like how the original game worked as well). The thing with firearms now is that ammo is far more sparse and using them draws in overwhelming amounts of zombies to your position.
There are riot zombies that can tank shots now, though.
