If games like codz or killing floor 2 had zombie kids then yeah that would be edgy and tasteless but not im nmrih1. Screw torn banner honestly for diluting such a classic experience and sullying greatness.
Dead Space 2 had infected exploding babies and kids who ran at you. You played in a daycare/school. Those levels were the most disturbing and horrific. And I absolutely loved this levels as they were an unfiltered look that the marker doesn't discriminate, neither should the virus in nmrih1.
I thought that the camera angle was so close to the player model, that it impaired your vision, and since I had played every first person shooter under the sun, I didn't understand why the developers would design the game with impaired vision. At the time I was like, "you need to be a console player to put up with this kind of ♥♥♥♥". So I refunded the game.

The irony is that I started playing The Forever Winter, and the backpack that you carry is so large ( like the world's bulkiest multi-day hiking backpack ), that it *obscures vision on the left side, but I understand it as a design feature.
I got used to the 3rd person camera angle quite quickly, because I tried to solo a beginner map for 3 hours, died 20+ times, and extracted zero times. During the 3 hours, I never even figured out where the water was hidden on the map.
The game really captures "Hobo in Terminator Land."
* if you hit alt, it pulls back the camera.
The children zombies where a way to counter vets because even seasoned vets could get snuck up on by a child or distracted by one or two of them long enough to make that mistake.
Also it represents a tonal shift.
they are just zombie runners with longer hit range and easier to kill
