This is true but... the last time I found children-anything scary was in the TV serial of Steven King's "Salem's Lot" ( back in the late 1970's ) and the only reason I found it scary was because I was a kid at the time:

But then again, it would be nice to have them but I can understand why they're not in the game and that's okay too.

In this everyone is the same height.
I understand in an extend to want to avoid this polemic but why not replace it with something else : different morphology zombies with differents stats (small, tall, slim, ...),or maybe animals infected (dog / wolf for something fast, even maybe elephant to give a resident evil outbreak vibe, ...).
Very true.. Adds to the atmosphere of the world.
TV shows these days are removing episodes from horror or their zombie stuff that have children involved..
These days people are soft. Also bashing these kids heads in with a bat was fun in the first game. Cause F them.
