No More Room in Hell 2

No More Room in Hell 2

A letter to devs, and marketing team
This is not a rant, this a critic of how this has been handled, and how it has not been beneficial for you, the game, or the fanbase that has been waiting. Matter of fact...it's made it worse.

First thing I want to get out the way is no, having the game release is not what this post is about. This is more about pointing out the flaws in how this was handled, and how it has made problems that shouldn't have existed in the first place. This is gonna be a long one folks, but 1 and half years is a long time to cover so...

Stopping the game release 2 weeks before launch
This a bold move. There is no other way to put it.

Remember this is NOT about releasing the game. But what followed this is where you started to make problems that didn't exist, or were seen as "Acceptable"...remember how many people said "take your time"

This statement will be important later

Saying nothing to the player base for 6+ months
This is were the downfall starts. To go into more detail from the start of this to this 6th month point, you had said that you had been able to take the game on full development and that the release would be canned for now do to getting a "mysterious benefactor" <-notice how that is still the best way to address them.

We are going to go down the list of mistakes here.
  1. there are very few companies that can achieve the "mysterious benefactor" look at get great reception.
  2. They withheld their name, this brings up natural the question of "why?"
  3. we have no contextual understanding of what having 50+ developers have allowed you to do

Your response to all of these type of concerns, is, and I quote "We are working on it." Interesting response. The only way that would be reassuring is if you haven't been the whole time....which is a lie. You had been showing us progress up until that release date.

Now keep in mind, this is 6 months after people had already thought they would be playing the game now.

Now, you did not want to give monthly updates (and I completely understand that), but the way this was handled created something dangerous....doubt

now, how could this doubt been addressed
  1. Had the lead developer and the representative of the "mysterious benefactor" come on to make a video talking and showing some side comparisons of something small. Like maybe a zombie animation or an environment of what we would of had, to what we will have, setting an idea of the benefit of this wait and why we should value this decision

notice how there was only 1 suggestion...it wasn't complicated. It took one step to address this and you wouldn't have to again for a long time

A year later...
This is a year and 6+ months later now. Let's go through what you has been addressed.
  1. We do not know who delayed the game 1.5 years ago.
  2. We do not know any new systems or comparisons to what we would of been given at the original release date (meaning the game itself) to what we are now
  3. We do not have an end in sight.

Now, if you do not see the problem....you have set up a high expectation. Keep in mind you didn't really have a star lined game coming and yet you had "Take your time"

How often do you hear that now? "Take your time"

You see what happened is, you made it a gamble. by the lack of information you have allowed information to run rampant up until people have decided to not give you rent free time your brain with "what ifs"

You now have such a HIGH expectation that honestly, it's not fair...but also should of been completely avoidable.

You have turned your game into a slot machine for many when the reality is their expectation were low in the beginning and were just happy to see you guys make NMRIH2.

This the crux of this critic, you made a problem for yourself that didn't exist.

While you may get the occasional "Take your time" you also have now "corpo crap game incoming" or even in some extremes "liars" which wasn't an issue before. While there are people that say that about everything, the the problem is not them...

If people saw what you we're going to give even if it's small scale, and idea of the reason this is good for us...then the ability to contradict that "corp crap" would be very easy. But now....we have nothing to say for your benefit, or in your defense.

Only doubt or hope, to fill it's place
That is not good marketing...that is gambling

Before any public announcement of the purchase of Lever Games by Torn Banner Studios, the games fest a few weeks ago, etc. a significant number of people, most of which were in the Chivalry 2 community, knew that Torn Banner Studios was working on No More Room in Hell 2 because of the shared developers across the two discords(Chiv and NMRIH2) combined with some good ol' linkedin leaking.

People were looking to figure out what project Torn Banner Studios was actually working on because Chivalry 2 was obviously barely even in maintenance mode with outsourced content as the centerpiece of every update since at least 2.7, more like rotting mode.
ooo i see what you mean brother. thanks !

yeah dont get me started on torn banner and how they treat your games. null topic + who asked but im 1000% avoiding this game now. which is sad to me because i 100%'ed NMRIH 1 and have hundreds of hours in it

NMRIH2 is being developed by Torn Banner Studios. Look at their community track record for Chivalry 2, and it will be more clear.
