Days Gone had zombie kids. Dead Space 1 and 2 had necromorph kids. Dying Light had zombie kids. Other media like The Walking Dead (Tv series/Telltale Games), Dawn of the Dead (both original and remake), All of Us Are Dead TV series (whole kindergarten of them was there!).
I get it if current absent of them related to the location of the mission (not so many places for kids to be near Nuclear Power Plant). So I hope that in the future when developers announce new mission it will suit the justice to add them back.
Otherwise, personally for me, the sequel will turns out just as another zombie game. Or not, who knows, time will show.
