High Frequency Sonar and Towed Array
Neither the High Frequency Sonar nor the Towed Array display any data on the Ship Control window. When I Stream or Retreive the Towed Array I can hear the sound, but no numbers are displayed on the Scope window. When I turn on the High Frequency Sonar nothing appears on the display. This is on the happens on the Los Angeles Class submarine on Sub Command. When playing the 688(i) data is displayed on both of these windows when operating them. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

HF sonar is primarily used for navigating thru icefields and under ice. It can also be used to detect and avoid incoming torpedoes coming in from about a 60 degree forward aspect.

There is a tactic that was used by US Subs when I served on SSN-660 in late 70's to evade incoming torpedoes that required the use of the HF sonar. Only worked if the torpedo was coming toward you from the front of the sub. Essentially you dove under the torpedo but you had to do it going fast, dive hard and dive at just the right time. We trained using the tactic against dummy warhead Mk37 torpedoes fired at us from another US sub. I only saw it executed correctly once. The tactic works in the game too but - you have to do it correctly and the timing is critical. Good Luck if you try it - you'll need it.
