Edit: Looking at some screenshots it seems like there are 6 character slots tho that might just be for multiplayer and I'm sure that could also be subject to change before release.
You can co-op with a friend who can bring another 6 slots as well, or, you could even call in a friend's team even if they are offline. So if your friend also had 100% trolls on their team you could have 6 trolls maximum.
They're fearsome beasts, so it's still powerful. Just look out for those fire element weapons..
If you're feeling like that's not enough characters to hold a line, you can swap a troll out and have half-slotters on your team. So for instance; 2 trolls and 2 slots worth of zombies (which becomes 4 zombies total) which would bring you back to 6 fighters.
If you co-op with a friend's team while they're offline, then the AI controls your friend's team of up to 6 team slots while you control your own team of up to 6 team slots. However, in co-op your teams could help each other.
For instance, the cupcakes in Pit People are healers. So if your friend's team has cupcakes on their team and you position one of your wounded fighters close to one of their cupcakes, then it could potentially heal your fighter as well. That's a good way to utilize their team even if you don't have direct control on their positioning.
REVEAL!!!! ;)
