If I understand right, on co-op, with two full teams, it does exactly that. Increase number of enemies. They built the game around the number of units you can bring as they themselves chose that number. What you're asking doesn't really make sense.
Plus, you get one extra spot to do whatever you want with.
That's only 3 people, and it easily wins unfair tournaments.
For the record, I also main a very basic team. However, it's difficult to get overwhelmed with the right weapon/armor combinations and the right positions.
