Your daily tournie leaderboard is just 100 randomly selected players for that day, including you. It's not every single player in the game. Otherwise getting to Gold would be much, much harder.
Example: I'm #1 on my leaderboard and I've barely done much past getting to 5k. Yesterday my friend had 8k, because we got on the same leaderboard by playing PvP together.

Thanks for clearfication! Do you mind if I ask you what determines to become a gold, and what the rewards are?

Just reach a certain threshold on the daily 'tournament standings/leaderboard' via playing PvP or the Unfair Challenge -- I'm not sure what exact placing you need for Gold but it will tell you when you're there -- and you'll get about 3 'Pit rewards', which are just fancy Golden cosmetics/weapons.

Leaderboard cycles at midnight PST, so in about 30 minutes from this post.
