How the hell do I play online multiplayer?

for co op: Goto town and goto the giant phone, host online and public (or private if you want a friend to join)
pvp: goto the pit and before you enter either side press x to turn online mode on.

After you've completed enough of the introduction you will receive a notice about unlocking the Space Phone in the city. That is where you can connect to one another, send invites, or look for anyone else playing mostly within your region.

um... can you please just tell us exactly how much we have to play to unlock it? instead of the vague 'enough'..

i got this game just to play coop online with my friend.

After you return to town with Sophia, online accessibility unlocks.

Story missions go as follows:
Introductory fight in the bear blood
Pipistrella Intro fight
Town Pit fight, ft. Yosef & the Speckled Horseman
You owe the king to take out some beach bums, ft. Sophia

and there might be a "Save Gluten" fight, or i forget if that's a story mission you have to opt to do. But anyways, after you get Sophia, you should have online accessibility unlocked.

That's correct. After returning from the Bridgeside Bandit/Bully Beach there will be a Space Phone unlock popup.

Only one of you has to have the Space Phone unlocked. You can invite your friend either from the phone or the Steam overlay if you've got it and it will ask them if they want to skip the introduction. It's not recommended to do it this way, as they might miss out on one of the core mechanics, but it is an option.

You must recruit Gluten or the fight restarts. All Story characters have to live, but you don't have to bring them on your team unless they are required by the story for a story mission..

"saddly it wood make the game a hell of a lot more interesting" is what the giant evil space bear wood probablie say but I imagine it makes the writers job a hell of a lot easyer I imagine
P.S. since I am on the subject great job on the writing(even if it makes me question the mental age of whoever is comming up with it and my own for thinking it's funy)

I also can't figure out how to play an online game.

I have the big phone booth unlocked. I clicked on it, and clicked play with anyone. It connected me to someone, then what do I do? The only option I had was hang up. Eventually the dude just left.

Then, I tried again, and it just says connected, with nobody joining.

How does this work, please?

Ok, but how do you do with "play against anyone"? I couldn't figure that out.

I appreciate the offer, but I don't have the time right now. I just wanted to see what it was all about. I'm sure my party isn't strong enough yet. I just started playing the game and have sucky dudes.

If you want to play AGAINST others, you need a 6 slot team, and then you'll enter the Pit (AKA the Arena) and go into the door on the right. Make the green 'Online' button is on in the Pit's main area before entering.

Ok, thanks. So, what is the difference in the pit and the phone booth multiplayer games?

You can access all modes online with the Space Phone, like exploring, questing, sending items, the unfair challenge, or PVP.

If you want to do anything that's exclusively inside the Pit you simply just go into the Pit instead. That one has an online/offline toggle right inside of it.

The city's just one big visual main menu. If you pause, you can go to the Help section which tells you about each building.
