Issues with capturing enemy capitals/ending the game

Hello everyone,

I've started my own pirate empire and enjoyed this game a great deal. I've pushed several of my rivals out of all words save for their capitals, and I'd like to start closing the game out. The only issue is -- I'm unable to invade their capital worlds.

Is it possible to ever remove a faction from the map completely, or does the end game just turn into endless skirmishes?

afaik, it's not possible to take over capitals.
