Still one of the peak developer trolling moments of all time, for better or worse... Nothing like beating a huge generated dungeon through all these powerful mobs and bosses, collecting all your rarest gear and then getting to the final boss of the dungeon and it automatically kills you no matter what for "story purposes" so you are always required to use a secondary character to then go beat it in return... except 95%+ of players probably only played one character mainly and put all the rarest loot, of which there are no duplicates in the dungeon, on a character whose level is in the hundreds while your alt is level 7 with hardly any gear and cannot collect the rarest or even most of the loot that remains in the dungeon and has to relevel, too. Sublime.
Dumb dev choices aside, the dungeon was pretty fun and the arcade mode did have a lot of depth well ahead most fighting games for even several years after. However, I doubt it will ever be remade.
many hours of my youth were spent in that dungeon trying to get as much use out of my glass sword as possible and not run out of food.
micro managing resources, maintaining gear durability, survival mechanics, randomly generated dungeons, and mandatory alts on a ps1 game were leagues ahead of any competition. im surprised anyone even knew what i was talking about.
the show delicious in dungeon reminds me of the game somehow. ill settle for that as a remake for now.
Also honorable mention that you may or may not like is Ys games like Ys Origin, Ys Oath of Felghana, etc.
I remember glass weapons lol. I also remember coming up ways with to beat the bears at the alternate entrance and the giant well Octopus to massive skip levels and grab better equipment as low level as possible. The intro cutscene of the game is still one of my favorites, too.
