Magnify materia don't apply on shortcut?

Well pretty much self explanatory: i'm slotting a fire materia linked with a magnify materia, i put lets say firaga as a shortcut LB + B but when i use the shortcut during a fight, firaga doesn't hit multiple targets.
Did i miss a setting somewhere or is it the expected behavior? seems weird cause i've seen video being able to do so :/

go to the set up page and when you put a spell in one of the slots there should be a r3 indicator that you click to set it on. its been a while since iv played the game.

but its done in the pause menu i think

Okay I figured this out. Go to the menu and select "Battle Settings" and then navigate to the character you want and assign a spell to a shortcut. Next, simply press the "Magnify" button while that shortcut is highlighted. Using an X-Box One Controller it's the LT button. You'll see the "Magnify" symbol show up next to the name of the spell, indicating that your shortcut is the magnified version.

At the bottom right of the screen you will see the word "Magnify" next to the icon of the button you need to press. It should be right beside the "Delete Setting" text which also shows the button for that.
