FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH

FF7 Remake was better... and bigger
I think the main reason for this in my opinion is the city of MIdgar. Seeing the city's vastness rebuilt for the current gen was awe inspiring, and being able to explore the different sectors was so awesome.

Rebirth goes back to the classic trope of RPG cities that are actually the size of tiny villages, which is such a disappointment after coming from the previous game. Nothing you come across in this game gives you the sense of wonder as seeing the backdrop of the vast Midgar skyline from the high offices of Shinra.

Pacing issues aside, I still am having fun with Rebirth in the 26 hours I have played so far, but it is definitely missing the magic that Remake had.

lol, what? Don't worry, guy. It's about 80hours to completion with a modest dip into side content. It gets stupid big, and later chapters are pretty much 8 hours of final dungeon with the last boss being a series of different boss fights, which last about 3 hours alone.

Just note that if you make it a point to do all side content in every zone before going to the next that you will have a really really bad time, lol. Look up the essential materias and item rewards from side quests, do those ones, move on. You just need to do a specific side quest chain to unlock Gilgamesh, the rest you can post game complete or tackle on hardmode. Which I highly recommend for these games. Remake and Rebirth hardmodes make you use the battle system in a way different way, but the gameplay becomes way better as a result. Also harder lol

Um... the first time seeing the Grasslands, seeing the Sister Ray and Junon, seeing and exploring the Gold Saucer, I've been blown away multiple times already.

So far I prefer this game to Remake, largely due to the increased freedom of exploration, evolution of the battle system, and easing up on the linearity (to be fair Midgar could only ever be linear since the original was too).

Not to say that the prior game didn't have its moments, but to me Remake walked so that Rebirth could run. And that's even taking the minigame complaints into account which honestly don't bother me that much.
I actually agree. I liked both games, but I prefer Remake. Just tighter story. The combat, I liked better with it being a little less twitchy, thus a little more strategic. And, while ironic to me, as the corrosponding events of Reirth was my section of OG and Midgar my least...the R Trilogy swapped their relative rankings in the new games IMO.

Sure, I liked a bit more freedom in Rebirth, but, yeah, Remake did it better for me.
better? maybe
bigger? no
He means it felt bigger, not that there were more traversable polygons

Not bigger as in "here's a bunch of land to run around in to explore and do side quests". Bigger as in "Holy **** this city is unbelievably massive."

I have no problem with open world games, but I think most of them miss the mark in terms of conveying a real world sense of scale and scope. While Remake is undoubtedly more linear, and you can't explore even a fraction of the actual city, the art direction and sky boxes convey a true sense of vastness.

This is what I meant by "bigger". Different people value certain aspects of games more, and for the people who really love the expanded exploration and freedom Rebirth gives them, I understand why they prefer it over Remake.

Lol exactly
I mean the entire first game was Midgar, so it kinda had to be big. I like both games so far, but Im preferring Rebirth despite the technical difficulties running it. In remake, there were some really cool backgrounds that made the city look huge and menacing, but streets full of silent npc's, stores and houses you'll never enter, just the bare bones basics on rails to the end. But that's pretty much the spirit of the first one in midgar too so I didn't mind it.... but back in the day Midgar felt just as big, and just as dragged out... it was those first few moments when you finally left the city and saw oh ♥♥♥♥, there's a whole open WORLD? *90's me about had a stroke* And Rebirth totally caught that vibe... and there's more interaction altogether. So it doesn't feel as on rails as Remake.
complete nonsense, remake was so linear and small compared to rebirth.
I don't really disagree on that, since ff7 rebirth story pacing really suck when compared to ff7 remake.

In the 7 remake, I felt more immersion and more connected to the story because it was so linear, more compact I would say. But those two filter chapter about sewer and train suck.

Rebirth, since it is open world, it felt more like a Ubisoft trash game, it forces me to go explore the world so I can get better ikon material therefore I felt the story was more separated. But overall only the cat sith chapter suck.

What if I told you that to me, rebirth feels more engaging cause remake took me down a very linear path and all the environments looked the same ? I couldn't finish remake, I watched my partner do the segments I haven't to get the picture. ^^''

Imagine every city gets their own installment and no open world. I think ppl would cry more about "milking FF7" (what is already the case anyway xD) + "no open world".
It's hard to please everyone because in Remake people felt extremely restricted and wanted open world.
But I get what you mean.
Midgar in Remake might have looked bigger to you but that's just really it, it looked bigger but there was no substance to it. It's just a bunch of hallways glued together with pretty much nothing to explore. Doesn't help that the game forces you to constantly backtrack between these samey looking linear areas.
