shoud i play ff7 og with visual mods as a first experience?
hello, just finished rebirth, ff7 remake was my first experience with final fantasy games, im really interested in the story so i want to play the og for the first time, should i play it with mods like 7th heaven that upgrade character models, maps textures, etc or my first experience will be better if i just play without any visual mods?

Personally, I'd say go for it. As much as I love FF7, and I do, it hasn't really aged gracefully. There's charm to it all, but at the end of the day, it's not a pretty game, its translation wasn't great, its pre-rendered backgrounds look awful on anything not a CRT, and while the music melodies are really, really good, the PS1 instrumentation is... largely pretty rough. There's a whole plethora of mods which will allow for a more visually and audibly pleasant experience.

Also, I highly recommend Echo S in its entirety.

I played it before Rebirth's launch. Voice acting, better graphics and improved hud, it was a rewarding experience :smileduck:

imo the mods mostly look garish and pretty awful and the remastered soundtracks are just too extra. I'd sooner emulate it with a decent crt filter.
The original graphics work well, if the backgrounds look too low res you can add a crt filter but it still holds up
I would play with this modpack for the upscaled hd backgrounds and hd fields, world map and battle backgrounds, the system stability via modern graphic api's and the 60fps option but would not recommend using the modern models, modern soundtrack/sound overhaul etc. While i can appreciate the effort put in, they clash too much with the original style imo.

Also i loved og FF7 as a 13y old in 1997 but it is quite jarring today. And i don't even mean the graphics (which are fine). The dialogue and how the story is conveyed is so much better in the remakes, i feel like most people, who criticize them for not exactly sticking to the original, have not played OG FF7 in almost 30 years.

i have been playing with mods as my first real experience with the game, tried playing it a few times back on psp, then on switch but i was having the same problems as you, if no one has suggested it yet, i would get the ninostyle chibi mod for over world models and the ninostyle battle mods for battle, the chibi style updates it just enough to be smooth and clear for each model in the game while also keeping it close to the original models, and the battle mod does the same, and it really just fits well with the background mods.
Thoroughly recommend you get the original and play it with the REMAKO mod that upscales all the pre rendered backgrounds into a beautiful artistic vision into exactly what the developers had in mind.

I’d recommend new threat mod as well since the mod just adds interesting additions to the pretty fun combat system

Also when you play it make sure to turn the battle settings to active and up the speed to the max, in the settings menu, makes the gameplay far more engaging since it’s very fast paced with those settings.

Enjoy bro, it’s a one of a kind game ngl lol, visual mods just allow the artistic visions to no longer be held hostage to archaic technology

Use the s echo mod too for voice acting.

Project edge has decent work on what they have finished

yes its better than the new ones
I say yes. I did and I'm glad I did before playing Remake and Rebirth.
Playing the og enhances the experience of Rebirth for me. I'd highly recommend. There's also a mod that adds in fully voice acted dialogue for the game it's amazing
Yes.
Yes. The original is still a better experience overall than the remake.

Remake is still great though.

yeah overall a great game and the remakes are made specifically in a way that doesn't displace OG. Playing OG will enhance your experience of the remakes too. ^^''

At least watching a pretty complete synopsis on youtube will help ya coming into the remakes
