New Game+ question.
I haven't even finished the game yet so please no spoilers.

My question is: Can I do New Game+ on hardcore and if so, does all my materia/weapons/gear carry over? Just don't want to spend a huge amount of time beefing ♥♥♥♥ up in my current run if I won't even be able to use it later.

I will assume from responses that materia and gear carries over since it's a chapter select system. Would be hard for the game to keep track of what the player had and when. Thanks all.

Yeah when I went back to chapter 1, I had my materia and gear :)

afaik there is no new game plus, just a chapter select. Which *BASICALLY* lets you do the same thing, chapter by chapter, but it's a missed opportunity imo, to have a real NG+ mode.

Also the story is phenomenal, don't ruin it by accidentally seeing something here. I finished it last week and it is STILL with me! And I say this as a fan of the OG.

I didn't realize there is a "hardcore" mode in this game. But after see the credits roll, you can select which chapter you want to revisit. Then you can pick the difficult for that selected chapter like 'Hard.'

I mean, if you start at chapter 1 and never go to the chapter select it IS effectively a NG+ mode. The game doesn't even force you to select a new chapter each time you end one or anything, you just play it normally.

Hard mode unlocks after you beat the game. Save the game once you complete it, and you will then be able to use chapter select to replay the game, select whether you want to reset sidequests (you will need to do so if you want to get all the manuscripts), select your difficulty (including hard), and yes, your weapons, materia, equipment, items and levels all carry over.

Wait it doesn't? I only played a *bit* into the chapter select, so I didn't know it didn't jump back to chapter select afterwards. That is very good to know :)

Everything carriers over from your original play through. Be warned 100% completion will take your soul.

I dunno about doing 100%. I'm just enjoying the game with one main party right now and want to play through again with a different one. Mainly because I got to the point where I am OP and combat is trivialized (With the crutch of saves and guides).I don't even use a lot of the materia beyond the basic ♥♥♥♥ and haven't bothered to get good at blocking/dodging.
