Why can't we preinstall?
I have fast internet so shouldn't be too bad but it's 3 days from release, throw us a bone. here's to hoping day 1 bugs are low impact.

Yeah it sucks, my internet speed isn't the fastest and with the game being 155gb, I won't be playing until the next day :(

Because it's not DRM heavily protected (no denuvo ♥♥♥♥) so... they want to avoid the shame of piracy trainwreck before release.
piracy is for sure the reason

This.

if theres no denuvo then the game will be cracked and uploaded day 1 anyways so preventing preloads for this reason is a moot point

Given the choice between no preload period or Denuvo DRM turning the game into a slideshow, I will gladly forego the preload.

The preload files are encrypted and completely inaccessible, let alone crackable. This isn’t about piracy, Square simply doesn’t care. combined with the absence of a demo, these are not good signs.

It means that they will have 24 hours before the crack unless the pirates internet speed is fast enough to download 155gb in one day then re-upload it. Most of the purchases will be pre-orders or day 1 purchases so they'd actually lose out on quite a bit of sales otherwise - when it comes to sales the first 2-3 days are the most important. That being said, I'm probably only gonna get to play the day after dues to my download speed ;(

I mean I can't speak for the quality of the port but the game is 100% awesome.

It's still a valid point.

When a game leaks pre-release, and is the only way to play before officially available, it's that much more attractive to a large class of gamers. The fact that its free is just icing for those folks.

Granted, this is a game that is out on another platform, but this is almost definitely the superior version. Also, SE is trying to explore a path to viability for these AAA titles, and PC is really important for them to do so. It's also a tricky platform to get right (i.e. stable and performant). They are getting better at this, but it's a shift for them they are nearing completion on I think.

It is what it is. It's almost here, just wait.

Tell me you don't know what pre-load is without telling me you don't know what pre-load actually is
