You should buy Xenoblade Chronicles, instead.

Specifically, if you simply want the most ludicrously massive world to explore and do tons of side quests than you want Xenoblade Chronicles X

16 is a selection of hallways and small, mostly empty sandboxes

As someone currently playing 16 my vote is don't bother with it. That game could have been a movie. It's more linear than 13, 99% of the loot is trash, there is no RPG mechanics to speak of, the combat outside the major boss battles is terrible, and it has major performance issues regardless of specs.

I deeply regret my purchase of it.

ff16 is a must play but is not an open world at all, unlike rebirth

as someone who likes FF16, I'd still recommend Rebirth first (Make sure you play Remake first.)

FF16 was combat and bossfights only. Maybe the "bloody palace" if you like stuff like that. Exploration was basically nonexistent. It was more like a simplified DMC with FF elements. Was fun though

i think for what you're going for, this one would be more your speed then 16 would be.

though the guy reccing xenoblade also gives a good suggestion if you want something outside the FF series. the first one really just does everything well for a jrpg.

I liked FFXVI, but it isn't Final Fantasy I fell in love with. Remake and Rebirth on the other hand still has that FF magic, even though it is different from OG. FFXVI also is way too linear for my taste and Rebirth has open world.

Elden Ring and DLC

FF7 rebirth has a lot of things to do, there are markers on the map with monsters to kill with side objectives like stagger/kill within time limit, defeat enemies without getting put to sleep stuff like that.

Has several arena type fights some with pre-defined enemies you have to swap skills out to combat them and defend against them. Like elemental materia (spell orb) which heals you depending what element you put in there because they all do fire etc.

Has a simple find x to craft x and then upgrade to add new effects to gear.

Gear hidden behind powerful enemies.

Mini treasure hunt

Really cool boss fights.

The story is great the music is AMAZING.

Open world, (can swim)

Oh and if you replay a chapter in Hard mode you can choose to keep your save data so you can finish off things later into the game. Revert so you have to do everything fresh like the first time or revert back to most upto date completion.
So if you really like doing side quests you can just reset them.

The combat is amazing and has so many mechanics. If you hold block and switch to a character it will put the character you switch to in the air at the boss. 70ish hours before I found that out.

I would say play/watch remake so you get the story going on if you don't wanna play the first one. up to you tho in the end.

FF16 imo was lacking in side content but everything else was great.

I'd say ff7 Rebirth, as that is my GOTY. FF16 has content that is behind dlc. So there is that.

Hope you have fun either way :steamhappy:
