Game quests reset, way to restore older file

So basically my game quests reset and no I didn't finish the game yet. I just happened to miss an early sidequest and went through that as a completionist, that for some reset all my quest data back to initial game and i'm trying to figure out how to load my older save files or is this just a bug in the game itself and i'm kinda SOL?

It kept my items/materia etc. but reset the quests.

Where you relying on auto saves? Just asking because when the game says you hit a checkpoint it's not auto saving. Always save the game before you quit is a good rule of thumb especially with games this long.

Nope, I saved the game each time before quitting.

It only did this after going back to do an older side quest by the chocobo ranch and it reset my whole grasslands quest line yet I still have all the items/materia from it.

It acted as though I reloaded the whole chapter, basically.

That's strange Steams cloud save system usually prevents things like that from happening unless you discovered a rare bug that saved over them.(Or the cloud save was corrupted) Have you tried seeing if your cloud saves are up to date or syncing properly? Sometimes you can roll them back to a previous save if you are lucky to no over save the cloud file you needed to go back to.

After checking further, it reset me even further back and some items are there, some materia is missing. Buggy game.

yeah its acting like I beat the game and I rolled back the chapters which I didn't even do. I think I triggered some previous checkpoint by accident resetting me 70% of the ay back so my only hope I guess is to try to restore a previous save ile.

yeah sadly looks like I basically ust have to redo 10+ hours of quests again including all the annoying card games that just aren't all that fun.

I found my cloud saves but its only letting me access my recent ones that glitched and an old one from when I first played game.
