Horrendous Camera & Targeting System With Keyboard & Mouse
The motherfúcking camera controls in this game, like in any console port, is fúcking horrendous. It keeps auto focusing on random spots on its own whenever you're near targetable objects, like in Desert Rush or when closing in on enemies, even when every single automatic feature in the settings is turned off. Cloud's Triple Slash makes you look like you're watching a fúcking 3-frame slideshow were it switches slides every single frame then fúck's up the camera & targeting once the skill finishes. The game gets unplayable when any character you control is anywhere near enemies. A fúcking PC port yet it assumes that players always uses a gòddàmn controller than needs fúcking autoaim all the time, how the fúck do you make the camera follow where the mouse is focused on?

And for fúck's sake, where the fúck is the mouse pointer?! Fúcking unpolished console port bullshìt.

When the game loads up it tells you that you're screwing yourself over if you don't play with a gamepad. They told you it was going to be bad, you did it anyway. Get a gamepad.

Oh, & I suppose you have an assortment of various appropriate gaming peripherals for each minigame on standby just in case you ran into them? I bet you played the piano minigames with an actual piano-based controller or a Dance Dance Revo mat during the Juno parade or you somehow connected a canister to your PC when catching chickens in Gongaga?

Just use a controller like it suggested you do.

It straight up warns you it will suck otherwise.

Why bother releasing it outside console platforms if it tells you to play it like one?

This is apparent with every game ported outside consoles. These modern lazy developers would rather offset optimizations to anyone stupid enough to carry it. No fúcking way am I playing it like I'm on a console when I have a goddàmn PC.

It was developed for the PS5, so it was developed around controller use. Just like FPS games suck with a controller, some games suck with keyboard and mouse.

Don't worry. Even the controller can get horrible camera jumps. I'm currently suffering through the Odin/Alexander fight on Gilgamesh Island. Trying to beat Odin down and the camera leaps over to Alexander randomly, because reasons.

Even with controller camera sucks major ass in combat

This game was designed for a controller, and a PS4 controller will work with almost any game on Steam using Steam Input.
nah i agree the camera repositioning, control and targeting are terrible. TBF I'm not very good with controllers anyway but I had a much better time in Star Ocean 6. In this game you do an ability or switch characters and you are looking off to the side lol. Why can't the camera auto-position behind the character? instead of showing me the side or front and forcing me to swing 180 to face the monster. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere

Trying this one out...

... and it works; after taking control & positioning a character around a bunch of enemies, I tried attacking randomly while panning the camera towards a direction & the camera no longer randomly changes focus immediately, like from bird's eye view on the first frame to bottom view on the next frame or wherever. It immediately felt like I was playing Integrade.

I actually read about this mod days ago but I didn't see anything related to camera issues (or the issue I interpret to be having) because it says in the description that all it does is something to do with battles so I went right passed it. Seems like camera issues might be some sort of symptom of the problem the mod fixed (inadvertently?).

Tried playing the game without the mod, did the same thing & the camera felt like I was fúcking drawing circles with my mouse in rapid succession.

Steam really ought to stop being so sterile & make a beer award.

Only problem left is the targeting; when not locking on, it keeps tracking the same target even when I'm pointing my focus on a different target at the middle of my screen. It's sort of like a softlock but very sticky. Same case, not using lock on; sometimes the target is no longer in the screen yet it still selects it even when I'm directing my camera towards an enemy right in the middle of the screen. The camera isn't focusing on it but the targeting system still selects it.
I'll be scouring for any existing fix for this but if anyone's already found one, I'll immediately look in to it.

Game controllers on PC predate the modern "games console". They have made the game playable on PC without a gamepad, but they have warned you that it's meant to be played with one for a good experience.

What more do you want? Try playing iRacing with a mouse and keyboard, see how you do. I have a gamepad for gamepad games, I have a wheel for racing games, I have a mechanical keyboard and a razer mouse for fps/mmo/rts games, you use the right tool for the job.

Properly working battle camera would be a good start

That's because they didn't optimize the game to where they plan to port it. All they did was the bare minimum; make it playable outside consoles. If developers were diligent & did things properly, why do you think people would resort to using mods in the first place?

iRacing is a racing simulator. Using a pedal/wheel combo is just for total immersion. You can actually use mouse/keyboard to play it, it's a fùcking racing game. How complicated would controllers need to be for racing games?

In fact, I'll do you one better; a more fitting example would be RTS games. You try playing them using gamepads & sEe HoW yOu Do.
I'll wait...
